BANGOR, Maine — A discussion about a samurai movie became heated Saturday night when a local transient got upset about a joke and punched the jokester in the face, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said.
“We met him at the hospital — Eastern Maine Medical Center’s emergency room,” the sergeant said of the 54-year-old victim.
The victim said he, James Brady, 48, and another man were hanging out in The Pines, a wooded area behind the Hope House where local homeless people and alcoholics gather to drink, when the fight broke out.
“He made a joke about the movie and [Brady] got upset,” Edwards said.
Brady, who is a transient, was charged with assault.
The Hope House is a Bangor shelter for people struggling with drugs and alcohol.

Kind of reminds me of the time Siskel and Ebert came to fisticuffs over “The Wiz” on their show.
I always thought “the pines” was by Bangor High School….where kids would go to hang out and have a cig before/during/after school.
no, the pines wooded area behind the hope house, right after pickle hill… nasty.
We were studying!
“The Pines, a wooded area behind the Hope House where local homeless people and alcoholics gather to drink, ”
Really?
More like the “Hopeless” house. Apparently it isn’t working out for these people if they’re still boozin’ it up.
I want to know what movie they were talking about and the joke…actually best they didn’t say. I’d probably end up going to the hospital and punching the guy in the face as well.
Apparently there isn’t much hope at the hope house if people are drinking behind it
right?!
The saddest part of the whole thing is that someone thought, two drunks fighting over a movie was news worthy.
