CRAWFORD, Maine — A Wesley man died Monday morning after a one-vehicle accident on Route 9 near the Washington County community of Crawford.
Alvah Hawkins, 75, of Wesley was eastbound headed toward Calais just before 7 a.m. when his vehicle left the roadway for reasons unknown, according to Maine State Police Sgt. Jeff Ingemi.
“He overcorrected and wound up coming across both lanes and struck an embankment,” Ingemi said. “He had head trauma.”
State police confirmed later Monday afternoon that Hawkins died. He had been airlifted by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
Alcohol and speed were not considered factors, Ingemi said. Hawkins was not wearing a seat belt. The vehicle, a 2000 Ford Taurus, had significant damage.
The accident did not close the busy highway.

Wishing him a speedy and complete recovery!!
So sorry he ended up passing away. Condolences to his friends and family!
alot of older drivers lately into serious accidents
how about a lot of younger drivers in accidents.
Roads in Tinkersville are dangerous…
Where is Wesley??
Wesley is between bangor and Calais. Closer to calais of course. I think its about 26 or so miles from calais. Very remote area. Tiny village. If you hear about Day Hill on route 9, thats in wesley.
A truck driver said his car was all over the road, sounds like mechanical issues or medical issues… Too bad, wish his family well…..
He just lost his wife last week. How tragic for the family.
Prayers for those that loved him. He is now with his wife.
