WINSLOW, Maine — A Waterville man became the first in the town of Winslow Monday to be charged with a fireworks violation under Maine’s new law, according to police.
Brian Stackpole, 22, allegedly lit off a display on Perch Road after 10 p.m., Winslow police Chief Jeffrey Felanson said Wednesday.
The sale, possession and use of fireworks are legal in Winslow but they can only be lit off between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m., according to Felanson.
The complaint came in just after 10 p.m., when a witness said he or she could see a display from Camp Caribou, located on Paddy’s Pond, Felanson said.
Stackpole was summoned for violating restrictions on use of consumer fireworks, Felanson said. He faces a fine of up to $500.

See, already making money for the town ………………………..
Sounds like a real busybody dwells at Camp Caribou.
“The call came in just after 10 pm” What 10:01 pm?
10:19 p.m, according to the Morning Sentinel…
That’s when the call came in, but what time was the display do we suppose?
Good poimt. I’d plead not guilty and demand a jury trial.
What a joke..use the taxpayers money in a better way, go find some real criminals!
He is a real criminal. he broke the law, that makes him a criminal.
“real criminal” I can point out a dozen drug houses in bangor but nothing ever gets done about it. those my friend are real criminals, not some town that makes up a law to get revenue.

The response the “pro” fireworks clan gave to citizens about the noise issues was –
Did you file a complaint about the fireworks laws broken?
Looks like people are just following that advise.
I watched some fireworks fly out in the road and hit someones car in South Portland……but it was before 10pm so it must be okay…
Just curious, but what kind do they allow that flies? They don’t allow Bottle Rockets, nor does New Hampshire, so it couldn’t of been one of those……
I think they allow Roman candles, which fly.
I see. I remember those, I think. Flaming lava balls, as I recall. Maybe should not be shot at cars.
No one ever stops the young people who occasionally shoot them off at the school. Why would they now?
…
what a joke
I just learned today that many fireworks are still illegal in Maine…. bottle rockets, sky rockets, helicopters. I was surprised. Also, the noise ordinances are still in effect, so that, like a loud party or amplifier, which are legal, the overpowering noise from them may be illegal. Interestin dilemma, no?
