ORRINGTON – Darrell L. Tenney, 72, died July 1, 2012, surrounded by his loving family at the home of his dear niece, Debbie Brunelle, who cared for him until his passing of cancer. He was born April 21, 1940, in Brewer, son of the late Leslie and Lillian (Dyer) Tenney.
Darrell worked for 30 years at Bears Den at University of Maine, Orono, until he retired to care for his mother. In his younger years, Darrell loved camping with his family at Green Lake Campground. He enjoyed fishing and snowmobiling. In his later years, he would go camping at Christies Campground with his niece, Carolyn and husband, Jim. Darrell loved having cookouts and sitting around the campfire.
He is survived by his sisters, Lillian B. Corliss of Bellview, Fla., and Pamela Heideman and husband, John, of Batavia, Ohio; special nieces, Debbie Brunelle of Brewer, Carolyn McLaughlin and husband, Jim, who he thought of like a brother, of Dedham; friends Blaine and Mary Fisher, where his face would light up when he saw them; many other nieces, nephews and cousins. A special thanks to New Hope Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion during Darrell’s final days, it is a gift of comfort to his family beyond words. A special thanks to Stacy, Pat, Christine, Nina, Samantha, and many, many more gifted staff of caregivers.
Relatives and friends are welcome to visit with the family 1-2 p.m. Thursday, July 5, at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. with the Rev. Sue Davenport officiating. Interment will be after at Marston Cemetery, Orrington. Those who wish to remember Darrell in a special way may make gifts in his memory to New Hope Hospice, P.O.
