EAGLE LAKE, Maine — Maine State Police investigators were working Tuesday to sort out information in the case of a Madawaska man who was found critically injured on Saturday lying in the roadway.

State police Detective Sgt. John Cote said Tuesday afternoon that “a lot of the answers remain elusive” in the quest to determine the circumstances behind the injury of Randy Willard, 24.

Police found Willard lying on Dennis Street in Eagle Lake after possibly falling from a pickup truck.

He suffered a serious head injury, according to police, and was taken to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent before being transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

He was listed in critical condition on Sunday. Hospital representatives said Tuesday afternoon that they had no information on his current status.

Investigators suspect that Willard fell from a pickup truck because that’s how the 911 call came in.

Cote said that police are hoping to question Willard about the incident once his condition improves.

They were seeking the public’s assistance Tuesday to fill in additional details.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call state police in Houlton at 532-5400.

Trooper Todd Stetson is the primary investigator and he was assisted at the scene by Detective Scott Bryant and Sgt. Brian Harris.

  1. Where is the person that called 911? If they called and said that he fell from his truck then obviously they saw him or he told them. If it were just some passerby I wouldnt think that they would call and say he fell they would more then likely say that there is a man laying in the road next to a truck. I say ask the caller.

    1. He fell out, and the rest of the people in the back of the truck saw him fall out and stopped the truck and helped him immediately. He wasn’t laying in the road any longer then it took for them to pick him up and bring him inside. This false media is really upsetting. It is misleading to the public and by giving the wrong story, they aren’t gonna get any closer to what they want to know- I have no idea what it is they are looking for, they know exactly what happened, they were told by MANY different people.

      1. I thought you explained this very well the first time. I hope the young man recovers well.

  2. release the audio of the 911 tape and maybe his/her voice will be recognized. It will also most likely force the caller him/herself to call in to tell he was not drunk but didn’t want to leave his/her buddy in the road….just my two cents.

    1. I know some people that were involved in this incident…the 911 caller was a passerby and that person gave a statement to police.

      1. Don’t know who you are man, but thank you. This is exactly what happened. The caller isnt the answer to the situation, she gave a hand written statement, she just so happened to be the first person to pull out her phone when we said call 911. People are numb. The police probably have nothing better to do then beat a dead horse.

  3. “Investigators suspect that Willard fell from a pickup truck because that’s how the 911 call came in.”
I don’t understand that. Because WHAT’S how the 911 call came in? From a pickup truck?
This is so vague and void of information.

One thing, “Cote said that police are hoping to question Willard about the incident once his condition improves,” makes it sound like the young man will be okay. I do hope he recovers quickly.

Perhaps NikkiElise would care to fill the rest of the world in on what happened..?

    1. It was a small party. Many people saw him fall out of the truck and hit the road. Statements were given to the police and I watched the woman who called 911 give her name to the dispatcher. The police got statements from the caller AND the people who were still at the party including myself. The police did NOT find him in the road. WHEN the police arrived he was in the back of the ambulance and they were backing out. His friends helped him into the house while we waited for an ambulance to show up. Good grief. The police are making it seem like it was totally suspicious and random – Man found lying in road.whatever. It wasn’t like that. Buncha dudes in the back of a truck, one fell out. Everyone ran to his aid and brought him inside immediately. The police didn’t arrive until 30 mins after everything occurred, and as soon as it happened, he had people at his side checking his pulse and respirations and trying to get a response out of him, right up until the EMT’s arrived. He was never left alone or found anywhere. Alykins, I’m not sure why they would say that the call came in because he fell from the truck, possibly because the caller was a passerby and saw him fall from the truck, either way someone would have called 911 if it hadn’t of been her, as i’ve said she was just the first one to have pulled out her phone. They know everything already, I have no idea what they think they are looking for, but its becoming an issue that is making it seem like a completely different event that happened. He fell out DIRECTLY outside of where we were having a gathering, about 20 feet down the road, not in a random spot, hence why he was immediately brought into the house by his friends. The police need to get THEIR statements right, especially to the media whom will present it to the public. They know they didn’t find him in the road, and that EVERYONE they spoke with told them what happened and  that he fell from the truck.

  4. I don’t understand how they don’t seem to know who called 911. I shood my cat off my desk one time and noticed he’d hit the 911 speed dial. I hung right up, but I immediately got a call back from them. And my # is unlisted!  Maybe the system isn’t as sophisticated up there.

  5. Give it up folks.  My guess is….the confusing account and lack of understanding of what happened to Willard is intentional. If Mr. Willard survives and escapes serious brain injury, then we will get the gist of what happened a few months from now.

  6. Accidents happen.  Nobody seems to want to admit that every one of us make decisions or do things that don’t always turn out the best.

Hope the young man heals very quickly.  Best of luck to you.  All other speculators, check the mirror before judging another.
