EAST MILLINOCKET – Jack Gerry Waite Sr., 74, passed peacefully away Tuesday, July 3, 2012. He was born Aug. 8, 1937, in Medway, to Norman and Flora Mae (Boynton) Waite.
Jack worked in the storeroom of Great Northern Paper, Millinocket, until his retirement, and will be remembered for his infectious smile, sense of humor, kindness and his love of family. He was an avid supporter of Boy Scouts of America serving several years as Scout Master. He loved all “his boys.” He’s also well known for the many years he worked for the Recreation Department as a baseball and basketball coach. Jack was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities, including many years as branch president. He loved leading the music and serving others.
Jack is survived by a brother, Edwin Waite of Millinocket; sons, Jack and Gailene Waite of Auburn and Alex and Pam Waite of East Millinocket; 17 grandkids, Jennifer, Betsy, Jack III, Joshua, Rebecca, Chad, Fatune, Racheal, Andrew, Lucas, Fatia, Adam, Zachary, Aaron, Jared, Hannah and Arris; 14 great-grandkids, many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Janice (Lessard) and son, Joel, Jack was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Pauline, Doris, Cora, Elenor, Gertrude, Lera, Norman and Ross. Our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Mountain Heights Nursing Home for their compassionate care of our father.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 7, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, with Mike Thurlow officiating. Interment will be at East Millinocket Cemetery.
