LINNEUS – Lawrence Mermier Dooley, better known as “Larry,” passed away July 2, 2012, at age 59. Larry was born in Connecticut to Lawrence and Mercedes Dooley.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Rebecca; his mother, Mercedes; and his six children, Liam, Benjamin, Daniel, Mark, Samuel and Sarah. He was beloved big brother to Louise, Cherie, Mercedes and Jude. He was an adored grandfather to Eva and Bella, and saw their mother, Heidi, as a second daughter.
Larry was a proud veteran, having served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Navy after enlisting at 18.
He later earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering and master’s degree in education. He worked as a nuclear engineer where he was also an educator until he retired. Larry could read a 500 page book in a day and was known for his brilliance and problem solving skills. He found solace in music and had a passion for building and creating. He fancied himself an amateur inventor. Larry was full of love and was an amazing father, having adopted two children as his own.
A service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at Bowers Funeral Home. A graveside service will be afterward. Larry will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery Plot for Veterans.
He was a supportive husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend. He will forever
be missed and loved. We love him and thank him for his love, laughs and life. Miss you pops.
