LILLE – Carmen M. Daigle, 80, died unexpectedly July 3, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Aug. 16, 1931, in St. Basile, New Brunswick, the daughter of Noel and Edith (Lizotte) Cyr.

Carmen obtained her formal education by attaining her diploma through adult education and then her teaching degree through University of Maine at Fort Kent. She worked for many years as a teacher for SAD 24 in Van Buren and in Grand Isle. She was also employed for several years as a nurse’s aide at the former Van Buren Community Hospital.

She had worked as a seamstress and upholsterer early on in her life. She also worked for NAGY Rug Co., Grand Isle, and was a supervisor at Jade East perfume factory – Vollman, Madawaska, for several years.

For 19 years Carmen operated Grand Isle Food Pantry out of her home.

She is survived by two daughters, Norma Gendreau and husband, Carl, of Madawaska, and Vicky Kohr of Lille; a daughter-in-law, Mary Daigle of Kittery; three sisters, Marie Ange Morin, Jeanne D’Arc Cyr and Collette Cyr, all of Quebec; seven grandchildren, Jason and Melissa Gendreau, Clint and Lana Gendreau, Chrisopher and Shanna Kohr, Jamie Kohr, Louie and Katelyn Altuz, Mike Altuz, and Sarah Daigle; and 12 great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her constant companion, her special dog, Bijou. Carmen was predeceased by her husband, Normand Daigle, in 1986; and by one son, Vernon Daigle, in 2003.

Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday at Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday at St. Gerard-Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Grand Isle. Committal service and interment will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Lille.
