ORNEVILLE TOWNSHIP, Maine — The Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department and the Maine State Police are on the scene of a shooting on McCorrison Road that left a man injured.

The victim, whose name and age were not released Friday night, was taken to Mayo Regional Hospital and then flown to Eastern Maine Medical Center by LifeFlight, Maine State Police Lt. Christopher Coleman confirmed late Friday.

Coleman said that the investigation was in its initial phases but that it appeared the shooting was the result of an altercation between two men.

Coleman said the state police were called in to assist with the investigation by county law enforcement officials. He said the victim’s injuries are life threatening but that to his knowledge, the victim was still alive.

The shooting was reported shortly after 5 p.m. Friday, a Piscataquis County emergency dispatcher said early Friday evening.

    1. Could have been self inflicted or an accidental discharge. Nothing I read yet says violence is involved. One never knows and I do hope the victim recovers speedily,

      1.  They’ve just updated the story to say that “it looks like it was a result of an altercation between 2 men”.

        1.  You, my friend, are just a negative Nelly!!!  Why don’t you just sit down, shut up, and think before you type!!!!  Get your facts straight before you go running your chops!!!  The only one that was struck in the head with a SLEDGE hammer was the victim!!!  Don’t try pointing blame where blame is not to be pointed!!  You kinda make me grin deep down, you make it sound like you were sitting right there watching the whole thing go down, like you know the victim and know exactly what happened!!!  What are you God? You know all, see all??

      1. Once again I agree with you. I’ll have to go on sabatical to clear this up in my mind

      2. So just because another city had 21 shootings over night means that this state isn’t getting more violent?  How exactly does that work?

        1. First, I wanted you to understand how violent some states are, Maine is not one of them.

Second, Maine is not becoming more violent. It is ranked as the safest state to live in.

Yes, violence is going to take place in Maine from time to time but that does not mean violence is on the rise.

    2. Perception and reality can be quite different things. a 2011 vitmization survey done by the Muskie School of Public Service showed almost no clinically significant difference in crime/victimization rates between 2006 and 2011, with the exception being identity theft. (Though it’s noted that crimes are under reported, now and in years past) I think that says a lot considering the difference in the encomy between then and now. We get news so fast now, and from almost everywhere, that we now know about things that 10-15 years we wouldn’t, and we hear about it almost instantly. The number of prisoners in the state system has declined (I don’t know about the counties numbers). Crimes have always been commited, what’s changed is how fast we get the news. Of course rates fluctuate year to year, but it’s not like dozens of murders are happening daily. Maine is still one of the safest places to live, we just need more skilled workers and good paying jobs…selling firecrackers is not bringing good jobs to Maine!

After all that, I hope for a speedy recovery for the victim.

  1. i was at emmc i saw the helicopter preparing to take off and it did take off mid afternoon. wondered where it was headed

    1. Having worked at EMMC, I know that life flight handles many calls a day. Most don’t make the paper, as they are illness related emergencies, rather than accidents. While the take off you witnessed/heard may have been this, it also may have been something else you will never hear about.

I am very thankful that this service is available for all types of emergencies. I have a friend who may not be alive today, if not for life flight. In his case, it was transport from EMMC to Boston for life saving surgery, as the result of something other than an accident.

  2. Thank God for Life Flight. We are fortunate to have this resource. Hopefully none of us will ever need it but nice to know it’s sitting there and ready to go in a split second!!

    1. At the time of emergency crews being called out Life Flight was going to be delayed an hour because they needed to refuel. initially they were going to fly him out a little closer to the scene but because of his injuries they drove him to Mayo then when life flight was ready to go, they came up to Dover to get him.

  3. Holy Crap people!!! Enough is enough! Something has to be done about the crime rate. Could it be there is no real punishment involved with crime?? Wouldn’t want to be too harsh, but this guy need a good beat down and many years in prison!

  4. Nothing justifies someone walking onto someone’s  property and shooting them…I don’t care what the altercation was…nothing justifies why this man was shot!!!!  The guy that shot the victim is still walking the streets….way to go on getting crime off the streets!!!!
