TOWNSHIP 17 RANGE 4, Maine — A husband and wife are dead after the motorcycle they were riding struck a car in an area of Aroostook County known as Cross Lake.

Maine State Police Sgt. Brian Harris said Sunday afternoon that the accident that claimed the lives of Allen Rossignol, 52, of Woodland and his wife, 50-year-old Judy Rossignol, took place just after noon.

According to Harris, Allen Rossignol was northbound on Route 161 on his 2012 Victory motorcycle with his wife on the back. Stephanie Dumais, 42, of Mapleton was southbound on the roadway in her 2007 Hyundai car. Rossignol reportedly drifted into the southbound lane, into Dumais’ path, and the vehicles collided head-on. Both riders were thrown from the motorcycle.

Both Rossignols were taken by Fort Kent Ambulance to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent. Allen Rossignol died while en route to Fort Kent from severe injuries suffered in the accident. Judy Rossignol also suffered severe injuries and died as a result of her injuries while at NMMC.

The Rossignols both were wearing helmets. Their motorcycle was demolished in the crash.

Dumais was taken by Caribou Ambulance to Cary Medical Center in Caribou for treatment of a cut to her leg.

Dumais had been wearing a seat belt. Her vehicle also was totaled in the crash.

Harris and Trooper Todd Stetson were assisted at the accident scene by the Maine Warden Service, Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department and North Lakes Fire and Rescue.

  1. I was on the way to Sinclair on 161 when I pulled over to give the ambulance right of way as they were heading to the scene of the accident.  My prayers are with the Rossignol family.

  2. It’s awful windy up here today.  I’m wondering if the strong winds might be what made him drift into the oncoming lane?  RIP Mr. & Mrs. Rossignol and my prayers are with your families.

    1. Agreed.  We were riding today and the wind gusts were pretty nasty at times.  RIP.  Such a tragedy

  3. My heart breaks for their families.  So sad to hear that while we were out on our bikes today that fellow cyclists suffered this fate.  RIP both of you.

  4. What an awful accident. My condolences to the friends and family. Our small community will certainly feel their loss.

  5. Condolences to the family as it is sad that two who loved to ride have ridden into their sunset. May you find solace in the fact they will forever be together.

  6. Alan and Judy were both wonderful people.  It is a sad loss to have lost both of them in this accident.  We were on our way to Canada when we came upon the accident.  So sorry for the son and family they leave behind.  RIP.

  7. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a result of the poor rood conditions throughout the state.  Some of our roads, especially secondary routes, have deteriorated to a point that it is dangerous to ride a motorcycle on them.  The dips in the road, where auto & truck tires generally ride, are the worst for a motorcycle as you get pulled one way or the other just like when you hit a patch of slush in a car. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is what happened to these folks and no matter how experienced you are there is no way to stop your bike from moving a few feet because of this. So sad and unfortunate that this happened to these folks who were out doing what they love.  Having been a motorcyclist for almost 20 years now I am quite careful about where I ride because there are just so many bad roads out there now.  The state and local government need to repair a lot of roads in this state.  The lack of investment in infrastructure is putting our state at a huge competitive disadvantage and now it is even endangering the safety of those using the roads, its time for action.

    1. One person blaming lack of loud pipes, another blaming road conditions, neither of you knowing anything about it. How ignorant of you both. It’s a tragic accident.

    2. It was very windy yesterday.  I was out there getting blown around quite a bit myself – even ended up cutting my ride short.
My deepest condolences to the family and friends of this couple.  I wish there were words to say that would help ease their pain.  I will also be praying for Mrs. Dumais.  I hope she is able to recover both mentally and physically from this tragedy.

  8. Didn’t you read the story? The motorcycle drifted in to the path of the on coming car. Your boneheaded theory of obnoxiously loud pipes doesn’t apply in this case. Nor did their helmets help. Motorcycles are a very dangerous mode of transportion.

  9. Did you read the article?  The motorcycle drifted into the lane of an oncoming car here.  Sure doesn’t sound like the car was at fault.

  10. No, I wasn’t there.  I’m guessing you weren’t either.  I try not to read more into it than what we know for details.  The article states that the motorcycle crossed into the path of the oncoming car.  By the way, I was out riding my own motorcycle all day yesterday.  I don’t have loud pipes nor feel the need to disturb the peace with them :)

  11. Very, very sad. Some on here are blameing poor road conditions, some no loud pipes. It really doesn’t matter what caused it. Two are dead, one injured, that’s all that does matter. Rest in peace Mr. & Mrs. Rossignol. Speedy recovery Ms Dumais.

  12. Your post only goes to show everyone loud pipes make people deaf and EXTREMELY STUPID.

  13. Two people are dead. PLEASE, don’t turn this into a fight over pipes and noise. Really? Grow up and have some respect. Keep your CHILDISH fights out of this! Love and prayers go out to all involved.

  14. Learn how to spell ! Motorcy(c)le ! And keep your inappropriate comments to your self.

  15. Just to clarify… neither loud pipes nor road conditions would have changed the outcome of this tragedy. The witness in the car behind them said it looked like the bike may have malfunctioned causing them to shoot into the path of the car. Ms. Dumais was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and my thoughts and prayers are with her as she has to live with this the rest of her life.

RIP Uncle Allen and Aunt Judy until we meet again…

  16. It’s lucky for us that your insensitive attitude only hurts your cause, not helps it.

If you’d try being sensitive and considerate over what was an obviously tragic -accident-, you may not get more support, but you’d surely get less angry resistance.

Legal exhaust is just as safe as illegal exhaust.  And a lot more enjoyable.

    A silent rider…

  17. My heart goes out to this family for their loss, and to Stephanie for being involved in the accident.  She is a wonderful person with a very kind heart.  I know she must be distraught over these poor people losing their lives.  We love you Steph and are thinking of you.  To the family and friends of the Rossignols, you are in our prayers.

  18. Words cannot express what a loss this is to the Rossignol family and the community of Woodland.  They lived their lives in a way that should serve as an example to us all. May they rest in peace, forever together.  Prayers go out to Ethan and to Ms. Dubais.

  19. Yes, I’m an amateur of 2 years…and a responsible and respectful person to my fellow human beings.

    1. TO THE MOTORCYLE PERSON:

You need to keep your negetive commits to yourself. Two great people got killed in this accident and the other lady has to live with it the rest of her life even if she wasn’t at fault. No one should be throughing stones in this time of grief. Think about the family and friends that will read the post on here. It is a great loss to their son, family and community. SO THINK BEFORE YOU POST…..THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      1. Well, s/he doesn’t NEED to do anything.  (great, put me in a position of having to defend the jerk…)

Second, it doesn’t help any to wave a big red juicy t-bone in front of them, and then tell them they can’t have it.  You aren’t going to get anywhere/reason, with someone by lecturing them like that.

If people didn’t respond to his/her ignorant-ness, they wouldn’t keep doing it.  All they’re really trying to do is yell FIRE! in a crowded movie theater, just for the attention.  So don’t give them any.

      2. I just came back from Wallagrass & Eagle Lake on that same day…I didn’t see that accident, but I know it was very windy up there that day.

My sympathies to all involved.  What a tragic accident.
        A fellow rider.
