BAILEYVILLE – Betty K. (Maher) Tammaro, 85, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at her cottage on Pleasant Lake, Alexander. Betty was born April 9, 1927, in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, daughter of the late John and Bessie (Coffey) Maher.
After graduating from Milltown High School in 1946, she attended St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing, St. John, New Brunswick, graduating in the class of 1952. On Sept. 8, 1956, she married her love, Vincent Tammaro, in Milltown, New Brunswick. Betty worked as a registered nurse for Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, until retiring to raise her children. Along with her husband, Vincent, they started V.L. Tammaro Oil Co. She was a communicant of St. James the Greater R.C. Church, Baileyville, and was a member of St. James Parish Council, Ladies Sodality and Garden Club.
She was devoted to her family and enjoyed traveling, reading, and spending summers at their cottage on Pleasant Lake.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Lois Maher. Surviving are her loving husband of 55 years, Vincent Tammaro; three children, John Tammaro and wife, Louise, of Falmouth, Michael Tammaro and fiancee, Pauline Beach, of Baileyville, and Judith Tammaro of Portland; granddaughter, Megan Tammaro of Falmouth; sister-in-law, Julia Pricone of Connecticut; many nieces and nephews; loving and devoted caregivers, Freda McIver, Nicole Merritt and Maxine Cropley; and “extended family” at V.L. Tammaro Oil Co.
Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 13, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. James the Greater R.C. Church, Baileyville, by the Rev. Frank Morin, celebrant. Burial will be after at Woodland Cemetery.
