ORRINGTON and FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Edward “Ed” John Striebe Sr., 81, went to be with our Lord July 10, 2012, surrounded by his loving family at a Bangor hospital. Ed passed away on his father’s birthday. He was born March 21, 1931, in Bronx, N.Y., son of the late Felix and Marie (Goss) Striebe.

Ed graduated from Harding High School, Bridgeport, Conn., in 1950, where he lettered in football. He married Anne (Clark), May 15, 1954, in Bridgeport, Conn. He was an ironworker with Ironworker’s Local No. 424 of New Haven, Conn. Ed was a third generation ironworker and retired after 41 years. Ed was also in the Naval Reserves for 15 years and a Mason with Lafayette Lodge No. 141 A.F. & A.M., Fairfield, Conn., since 1975. He received the Man of the Year award from Lake Hills in Connecticut in 1970. His life revolved around his wife and his family. Ed had a big heart – he always had a kind word for everyone and would help anyone who needed it. He was a hard worker and a man of great integrity.

Edward is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Anne (Clark) Striebe; daughter, Donna (Striebe) Leavitt and husband, Chuck, of Ellsworth; son, Edward “Eddie” J. Striebe Jr. and wife, Leslie (Cossitt) Striebe of Northfield, Vt.; grandchildren, Justin Grey of Pembroke, Kyle Grey of Orrington, Laura George of Orrington, Brendan Striebe of Northfield, Vt., and Kayla Striebe of Northfield, Vt.; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Kathleen (Striebe) Gillespy and husband, Jack, of Stratford, Conn., Rosanne (Striebe) Borucki of Trumball, Conn., and Arlene (Striebe) Cronk and husband, Bob, of Cape Coral, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Rosemary Striebe of Fairfield, Conn., Shirley (Clark) Oravetz of Naugatuck, Conn., Barbara (Clark) Aiken of Staatsburg, N.Y., and Charlotte (Clark) Motschenbacker and husband, Jack, of Keno, Ore.; many nieces and nephews; and his lifelong friend, Joe Michalek of Stratford, Conn. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Debra Louise Striebe, on Dec. 12, 1971, at age 13; and brother, William “Bill” Striebe. Ed will be missed by all who knew him, especially his family. The family extends their sincere appreciation and thanks to all the staff of St. Joseph Hospital Critical Care Unit, for they exemplified true caring and compassion for Edward, and truly lived their mission.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, at East Orrington Congregational Church, Johnson Mill Road, Orrington. A gathering with refreshments will be held after the service in the Carlson Hall.
