SANFORD, Maine — A young skateboarder is in serious condition after he was struck Friday afternoon by a company work truck while crossing Lebanon Street, near the intersection of Nason Street.
“The youth was struck by a commercial vehicle traveling east and sustained very serious injuries,” a press release from Sanford Police Department states.
The identity of the male juvenile and his age and information about the company truck were not released.
“The youth was transported to Goodall Hospital by Sanford Fire and Rescue and subsequently airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland,” the statement says.

Parents, teach your children to walk across the street while holding their skateboard, just like bicycle riders are supposed to do.
Just because you teach your kids to do it …doesn’t mean they are going to listen 100%…don’t beat a dead horse..hopefully this little boy is okay..how about a little sympathy for him instead of a scolding…
Re-read my message. I wasn’t scolding anyone. I was giving advice to parents who may be reading this article. Most of us don’t teach our children to walk, not ride, across streets. We should.
……
Well the headline says “Boy on skateboard hit by commercial vehicle”. I’m not sure why they had to put in the fact that it was a commercial vehicle . You’re right though, my parents always told me to look both ways before crossing the street. That doesn’t mean I always did . The poor kid was probably just like everybody else seems to be this summer, in a big hurry. I hope he recovers soon. What a horrible way to spend the summer.
It said commercial vehicle, It was a dump truck and the poor 14 year old little boy has passed! Sad, sad story! I still can’t think about this without crying! Absolutely tragic!!
The title of the article says “Boy on skateboard” not “Pedestrian”.
How about holding him accountable for his actions. You feel sorry for the kid? What about the heart attack the guy driving must have had? Yes by the way I am scolding the kid big time. What if the kid had caused the vehicle to swerve and then someone got killed?
If you do a google search, you will get more southern news stations and will learn that the 14 year old boy has died, and the comments seem to suggest that he was walking across the street in a crosswalk and it is sounding like it may have been the driver’s fault.
So sorry to hear that. The BDN will catch up in about four days as usual. They have to wait for it to go AP.
You are a heartless jerk! Wait until the whole story comes out! I heard the brakes failed, I heard the driver was texting BLAH BLAH BLAH! Does it really matter??? This little boy is gone, His family and the whole town of sanford and surrounding towns are devastated and you want to play the blame game? How about R.I.P. little boy, sorry to the dump truck driver for the pain and heartache and get rid of that damn crosswalk (very dangerous)! It’s ignorant remarks like yours that cause so much pain for others, That actually care about all children in this world! R.I.P cory cabana!!!
