Kevin Raye outraised incumbent Rep. Mike Michaud during the latest five-week fundraising period, a milestone the Republican’s campaign is pointing to as a sign that it’s gaining momentum in the race for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District.
Raye, the Maine Senate president, collected $165,000 in campaign contributions between May 24 and June 30, while Michaud, a Democrat, took in $109,000. The numbers are included in campaign finance reports that were due to the Federal Election Commission on July 15.
While Michaud has raised more throughout the 2012 election cycle and had more cash on hand at the end of June, Raye’s campaign says the fundraising figures are the latest sign that Raye is posing a major threat to Michaud in the congressman’s effort to win a sixth term in the U.S. House.
So far this cycle, Michaud has raised $926,000 to Raye’s $353,000. At the end of June, Michaud had $635,000 on hand to Raye’s $242,000. As an incumbent, Michaud has been raising money for the 2012 race since the start of 2011, while Raye joined the race at the beginning of this year.
“Kevin’s strong fundraising performance is in keeping with what we’re seeing on the campaign trail,” Raye campaign manager Rob Caverly said in a written statement. “People are responding well to his positive message.”
Greg Olson, Michaud’s campaign manager, said the Democrat’s campaign has been pleased with the pace of fundraising during the 2012 election cycle and that it’s prepared for a competitive race against Raye.
“We’ve had a pretty aggressive fundraising clip, and we’re going to have the resources necessary for a full-scale communications effort this fall,” he said.
Raye’s contributor list includes a handful of Republican state legislators, former Gov. John McKernan, L.L. Bean heiress and restaurateur Linda Bean, and Shawn Moody, owner of Moody’s Collision Centers who ran for governor as an independent in 2010.
Of Raye’s $165,000 in fundraising, $20,500 came from political action committees, including $5,000 from the committee controlled by U.S. House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio and $5,000 from the committee controlled by Maine Sen. Susan Collins. Snowe for Senate, the campaign committee of retiring Maine Sen. Olympia Snowe, contributed $2,000.
Other political action committees on the list include Republican Majority for Choice, an organization of Republicans who favor abortion rights, and a committee representing Wyman’s of Maine, a Washington County blueberry grower.
The fundraising period covered by the latest finance reports include the final weeks before the June 12 primary — in which Raye defeated Blaine Richardson and Michaud faced no challenger — and the first few weeks of the general election campaign.
Raye’s $45,000 in expenses included $7,000 in advertising from before the primary and about $5,000 in production costs afterward. The expense lists also includes nearly $7,000 in expenses for campaign mailings.
Michaud raised $68,000 — a majority of his $109,000 during the latest period — from political action committees. He spent $18,000 during the reporting period.
Michaud’s donor list includes author and Bangor resident Tabitha King, wife of author Stephen King; Tom’s of Maine co-founder Tom Chappell, who operates Rambler’s Way Farm in Kennebunk; and Michaud’s 1st District colleague, U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree.
The political action committees supporting the 2nd District congressman include committees representing Altria Group, parent company of cigarette manufacturer Philip Morris; American Federation of Teachers; American Forest and Paper Association; Boeing; National Automotive Dealers Association; defense contractor General Dynamics, which has operations in Saco; defense contractor Raytheon; and unions representing letter carriers and U.S. Treasury employees.
Michaud’s campaign also received contributions from the campaign funds of a number of his Democratic House colleagues.
For Raye’s campaign, the strong fundraising numbers follow a week of promising polling and accolades from national Republicans.
The National Republican Congressional Committee last week named Raye a “Young Gun” — the top designation in the committee’s program that identifies candidates it considers promising. That designation followed the release of a new poll that showed Raye within reach of Michaud, trailing the incumbent 47 percent to 35 percent. The poll was conducted between June 20 and 25 by the Portland firm Critical Insights and had a 4 percent margin of error.
Michaud’s campaign on Monday tried to stem the tide of positive publicity for Raye by releasing an internal poll that shows Michaud leading the contest with 62 percent support to 30 percent support for Raye.
That poll was conducted between June 25 and June 27 by the Washington, D.C., Democratic pollster Normington Petts. The survey of 400 likely voters had a margin of error of 4.9 percent.

good! time for michaud to go! maybe he and olympia can start an ice cream shop with obamma, they could call it coneheads..
*Obama. Also, your lack of capitalization is amazing. The shift key is just to the left of the “z” key.
LMAO!!!
I wish!
That’s why he can’t find it.Will never go left for anything.Imagine what he’d be like driving in Europe!
Typical liberal, you think people who disagree with you are stupid.
Liberals would ruin this Country in two years if they had 100% control because they will not reason with anyone.
I kinda feel sorry for people like that.
I thought that big business supported the GOP (sarcasm).
Is that because that fraud of Michaud as a “fork lift operator” when he was nothing but the mill’s paid mouthpiece in Augusta is coming back to bite him in the butt? How many “mill workers” would get that kind of time off to be AWAY from work to do a different full time job?
Quite a few actually. There was a notorious guy just recently who refused to sit out votes concerning his mill — even though they were still paying him a full time salary while he also collected a legislator’s salary,
I voted for Mike 3 times, he used the troops to get votes, I regret my decision to do so.. I will not give him a 4th chance.
If by “used the troops” you mean Mike has consistently and strongly supported our troops, then you have a point.
But why would you hold Mike’s support of the troops against him? That is a bizarre position.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!
Mike has done more to help Vets, than many others who say they have. Response from his offices is excellent.
His vote on the largest middle class tax increase EVER (Obamacare) should be enough of a reason to vote this guy out.
LOL… still drinking the tea??? You should check out multiple independent analyses of the AHA and you will be startled to learn that none agree with your statement. Millions of Americans will be better off plain and simple.
Step away from your cool aid, we were told the cost would be $900 billion now it is $2.6 trillion over ten years. this is going to cost the tax payers dearly. I have read the independent CBO report so do not go down the Foxnews, Rush, Beck rant. I do my own research which clearly you did not.
The CBO actually says that the ACA will “SAVE” approximately $124 billion over a period of 10 years.
Oh dear. Now you are fighting dirty … using actual facts supported by non partisan analysis .
please cite your source, here is mine from March which has been revised since.
http://cbo.gov/publication/43080
I went to the cbo website and couldn’t find the publication you were referring to, but that being said, I don’t dispute your $900 billion cost figure . As a matter of fact what I read in a summary of the ACA was a cost of $938 billion over a 10 year period but these cost are more than covered by the increased revenues that are associated with it,resulting in a savings of $124 billion. On the CBO web site they are now working on an update on the affects of the law and it should be out the week of July 23rd. You can view a summary of the ACA at http://www.kff.org/healthcarereform/upload/8061.pdf. If you go to Factcheck.org they lay out everything concerning the law including some of the myths and exaggerations put out by both sides and in their statements the CBO estimates that repealing the ACA would add $210 billion to our deficit.
Dirigo won’t have an answer for your facts. The BDN has moved the story off the top and he just gets paid for trolling front page stories. All that being said… you nailed his undershorts to the wall.
Keep laughing, chris. People are finally recognising that we need politicians in DC willing to cut, not expand, spending. No hope of that from Michaud. Go Raye!
I can’t understand why Repubs are only interested in cutting spending when there’s a Democrat POTUS. Where were you folks 8 years ago?
Conservatives certainly were interested in cutting spending 8 years ago. Why do you think Bush’s legacy is so tarnished among us? He spent too much money, period. For instance, the prescription drug entitlement was a huge mistake.
Your assertion is rather beside the point. This country is broke. The federal government is out of control. Time to put the country back in the control of responsible adults, not irresponsible children like Obama, Reid, and Pelosi.
Right on. We need another 10 years of Bush, Cheney, Rove.
Huh? I just stated a fact – conservatives are generally unhappy with Mr. Bush’s spending, and in your twisted reasoning, you concluded I advocated for another two and a half Bush terms.
Suggestion: think before you type!
You should evaluate the Bush-Cheney reign, and then think before you allow your twisted logic to type such a reply.
Surely you jest if you are suggesting that Romney is responsible? Like, Boehner, McConnell, Cantor, Bachmann and Ryan? Three and half years – a blockade in Congress as they pursue their only goal – one term for the president.
How sad.
get over it!
Reid and Pelosi are irresponsible children. Obama is a liberal/progressive/Marxist/socialist and knows exactly what he is trying to do!
Do your homework instead of listening to Rush. The Affordable Care Act will only affect the country’s GDP by .49%. The Revenue Act of 1942 had an affect of 5.04% on our GDP which was the largest tax increase from 1940 to 2006. There are a lot of other Acts that increased taxes more than the ACA if you care to look.
Didn’t the CBO just double the cost of Obamacare, from it’s “budget neutral” position of two years ago…
Only on the Faux media networks.
Do you even know what the CBO is? What the heck does Fox have to do with that?
I believe the latest estimate by the (so called non-partisan) CBO is that Obamacare will cost $1.5 trillion over the next few years (as reported in the BDN.) However, the selective memories of some have allowed them to forget that report!
It only costs you if you don’t have insurance and don’t want insurance. And if you don’t want insurance I suggest that you don’t get sick, but if you do die quickly
All you people out in space that think Obama Care will not cost us anything need to think.
Look at Canada.
1. Gas $5.20 per gallon.
2. Sales tax 16% average.
3. You get cancer after 50 You DIE.
What do you think would happen to the United States when we are taxed like Canada?
Gee, I dunno, but for the first time ever, the average Canadian is now worth more than the average American. There was an article on this just yesterday. I guess Canadians are doing just fine.
Thats because they let the poor die.
Yeah, but no.
There is a reason for that … his name is Stephen Harper – Prime Minister and he is a conservative.
And yet, they still have universal care, imagine that.
They also frack allot! Whats your point?
He made it.
if I need to point out what my point was, there is no hope that I could convey it to you any clearer.
Is this why many people become Canadian citizens to avail themselves of Cancer Care?
please provide a link to #3. As to 1 and 2 no argument there, except that alot of #1 is tax which is used for things they need. Look at Canada, yes longer life span, you don’t go bankrupt because you’re sick, and if you’re in need of critical care you get it right away, We here in the U.S. are used to instant gratification, and not waiting for anyone or anything, but insurance companies make you wait, deny coverage, raise your rates, and that’s better? Substitute taxes for premiums and you’re Canada
I hate to tell you but even if 1 has insurance and gets cancer in the US your chances aren’t good. When my dad had cancer in 1989 it was wait a week for a test, wait a week for the results, wait, wait, wait until everything moved so slowly it was too late for any treatment. a very sad commentary for a WWII vet and great dad. I know his doctor will get his. If not in this lifetime, then the next. what goes around comes around.
What did Romney Care do?
Time for Michaud to go! Glad to see Kevin Raye is gaining momentum. It’s time for Mainers to have a stronger voice!
That’s why I will be voting for Mike.
If you believe you are better off now that you were four years ago, vote for Mike. If you believe your not, vote for Raye.
I think you mean two years ago (the US House of Rep’s have 2 year terms ) . Actually I am better off than both 4 years ago and 2 years ago . I plan to cast my vote appropriately on 11/6 / 2012 .Thanks for your sentiment and civil tone.
All you really have to do is look at who is supporting the candidate. IF it is a bunch of rich people THEN YOU CAN BE SURE that us normal (middle-income folks) are going to get screwed!!!!!
yep, Raye will fix it all. RIGHT!
Cut WhoIsPete some slack, obviously he meant to say RICH Mainers!
Mr Raye is one of those Republicans we have so many of these days who were born on third base and think they hit a triple.
And they do what they can to make sure no body else can get to first base.
I’ve never met anyone from Washington County who was born on third base… the county is one of the poorest in the nation. Kevin is a real decent guy, who worked hard for everything he has… Jason does writing slanderous garbage make you feel better?
Raye has done nothing but climbed on the backs of the less fortunate. He is the lowest form of garbage, right there with his buddy Lepage.
Mr. Raye’s biography must be in error then where it notes that he was born on third base when he inherited the family business, Raye’s Mustard.
It’s unclear what he does, if anything, to earn his share from the business since his sister, Nancy Raye, operates the mill and is credited with building the business after her other family members ran it into the ground twenty years ago.
Here’s the link:
http://www.businessweek.com/smallbiz/news/coladvice/reallife/rl990602.htm
Please do a modicum of research before accusing me of misrepresenting.
(You must never have met long time state senator Hollis Wyman, owner of Wyman Blueberries from Washington County. Washington County has a long, sad tradition of electing rich Republicans who vote against the interests of their poor constituents.)
JasonWeb, Never let the facts get in the way of your partisan spin.
#1Kevin Raye is one of 8 BROTHERS, he does not have a sister.
#2 Nancy is his cousin. Her grandfather is who started Raye’s Mustard Mill.
#3 Kevin did not inherent the mustard mill he BOUGHT it with his wife Karen. The link you provided does not provide any backup for your baseless attacks. Yes Nancy ran the mill, yes Nancy saved the mill, and then she sold it to Kevin who now with his wife Karen is the owner and operator of the world’s best yellow mustard 7 out of the last 8 years. Maybe while you are doing your research you should take off your partisan blinders, they seem to be clouding your vision. For more about Kevin Raye’s real background: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4Ot9wjG9KY&feature=plcp
from what 1 of my friends told me he doesn’t understand the difference between civil unions and marriage for gays. 1 difference is people in civil unions don’t have the rights that legally married people do when it comes to Social Security. he can’t figure that out?
“…worked hard for everything he has…”!!!???
(Thanks for the laugh, Johnson.)
Maybe you want to inform us of how Raye has kept you from reaching first base. He seems reasonable and thoughtful to me. You may disagree with his politics, but I doubt that he has personally kept you from reaching your potential.
Well said! I am not a “stick & ball” sports fan, but I believe you have to “step up to the plate” before you can get to first base!
For one, he championed the new anti-Obamacare reforms in the legislature that will increase the costs of health care to Mainers, especially in rural (read Washington County) parts of the state. It’s difficult getting to first base when you can’t afford to keep healthy.
He has consistently voted against programs designed to provide some form of equal opportunity for the less fortunate who are most certainly not born on third base but rather have been denied admittance to the game.
It’s his politics that have prevented others from getting a chance at first base.
I agree..Back Bench Mike needs to go…
Time will tell if Raye gains momentum. This donation report is not an indication that has happened yet.
A significant % of donors never donate until after a contested primary because they want the money used to fight the other party not for in-fighting within their own party.
Michaud was not contested in a primary so his donors did not show the same pattern that Raye’s did – waiting until just after he won the nomination to donate.
The next reporting cycle will be much more meaningful than this one.
Yeah, well gaining momentum is one thing, he is still WAY WAY behind Michaud in total money raised.
No way is Michaud up by that much… Afterall who would have voted for Levesque and not Raye… 45% is the floor for Kevin & 55% is the ceiling for Michaud.
Kevin Raye is a shoo-in to defeat Mike Michaud. He could stop campaigning today and coast to victory. Mike should resign now to avoid an overwhelming defeat.
LOL, that’s what you guys say every time and every time Michaud wins by a huge margin.
LOL…Mike whipped him before and he’ll whip him again.
Don’t count your whips before they have cracked.
Very good! LOL!
Money isn’t everything. Hopefully, the R’s can’t buy elections in Maine.
dream on
A lot of followers here on this page… people can’t think for them selves any more? Raye will Not win at all… Michaud, will take every bit of it all the way!!!!
There’s a big difference between raising money and winning an election. Michaud will handily defeat this tea party darling.
I guess the Super PAC money ain’t exactly rolling in. It will take more than $54K to wash away the LePage stench !
The Super PAC money will be spent indipendently from the candidates campaign. That is what the USSC has enabled the corporations and unions to do. They can run anything they want and don’t have to back it up with proof because they are all anonomous. The Raye campaign is probably important to the Republicans because they, IMO, will lose a bunch of these obstructionist Tea Party/Republicans in the fall. That is if the Dem’s put up any reasonable candidates to oppose them.
There will probably be 5X the money spent on this campaign round than in the last 3 or 4 combined. The big winners will be the TV, Radio & print media.
And that`s because most people just vote for the guy they think will win, not someone that will represent them. Most voters are just robots and don`t THINK for themselves!!!!!!
THAT is for sure!! How did that puppet (LePage) get into office away?? The same way GWbush did— behind closed doors…………..
Glad to see Kevin Raye gaining the Big Mo! I’m not a fan of Mike Michaud by any stretch of the imagination, he’s a career politician, but hats off to him for working in the trenches for years in the mills. Term limits should seriously be looked at.
And Kevin Raye is not a career politician? Keeping drinking that koolaid there chum
Mike won with, what 54% of the vote against Jason Levesque…face it, the guy is toast…if Raye is raising more money than him and Mike is getting ALL his money form DC he’s totally screwed!
Raye raised more money than him, over a 5 day period, but overall Mike has way, way more money raised.
LOL. Come on people give Mike a fair shot. Everytime something good is inthe news he is there to help take the credit. When mills close, jobs are lost, business goes over seas he is right…………….well…………somewhere. People give Lepage a hard time for some of his knucklehead comments, but really he isn’t saying anything any one hard working Mainer (not implant) has said or thought. Plus alot of what he has said has clearly been taken out of content, and only the well informed or common sensed person would understand. However there is not one hard working Mainer Lepage would not go and defended. Mike on the other hand loves the lime ligh twhen everything is smooth. and heads forshelter when it all crumbles (unless it is election time).
Yawn
Raye used to be a moderate voice, but he has aligned himself with the most extreme members of his own party. These extremists do not care about the working people of Maine. Michaud is certainly not my favorite candidate, but if I have to choose I will vote for Michaud.
Kevin Raye has long been one of my favorite politicians but he has disappointed moderates a great deal many times lately.
I used to be convinced Raye was a strong independent voice, voting his own beliefs and what is best for the people.
After his enabling behavior supporting the arrogant ignorant bully in the Blaine House Raye lost a lot of my respect and with it much of my support.
Putting party before the state may be enough to torpedo Raye’s chances.
Ah yes! When you have nothing coherent to say apply the label “extremist!” Your friends (of a like mind) have already used the word “bigot” what other (untrue) labels will they all dredge up in their little minds?
See ya’ later Mike Michaud!
That’s what you guys said last time with Levesque! Guess who won by a 10 point margin ;)
Time for Do Nothing Back Bench Mike to go..He has had his chance and like a good union guy he just showed up to get paid…You never hear about him good or bad..He just collects his check…
Once the stuff about Raye brokering the tainted deal that stole the boat school property from Eastport, Raye won’t have a chance. Michaud is holding back until closer to the election.
You need more medication and a grasp on reality/ nothing was stolen get your facts correct before spewing ill reality
Amen!
A vote for Michaud is a vote against Lepage.
If you want to send the Gestapo Governor a message vote Michaud.
If you support bigotry, vote Raye.
Bigotry? Huh? Raye is no bigot, and neither is LePage. What you been smoking, son?
Bigot is in the definition of Tea Party, isn’t it?
Don’t be a silly gopher, gofer. Members of the Tea Party can simply read the tea leaves, i.e., the wrong direction this country is headed in, and are urging strong spending restraint and limited government before we find ourselves in the basketcase Europe is now in. Liberalism fails everytime and everywhere it is tried. Face this fact and move on.
It is the liberals who are all hung up on race, voting in the most unqualified person ever to hold the White House all because of the color of his skin and his teleprompted eloquence. Yes, there are racists in every political group, but what should one make of the leftist NAACP, a group dedicated to the advancement of a particular race, to the detriment of others (see affirmative action, etc.)? Look for a similar group on the conservative side of the spectrum – you won’t find one.
Just look at California. Liberal idealogues have driven that state into the ground, and what do they do? Re-elect the infamous Jerry Brown over a proven leader, Meg Whitman. And Brown is doubling down on a high-speed train to nowhere at the cost of $100 billion neither CA or the US has.
Those who fail to understand history are doomed to repeat it. Liberalism is a failed political ideology, plain and simple. Want to help your fellow neighbor? Go ahead. I highly recommend United Way. Just don’t force me to give my money to a highly wasteful enterprise (the feds) so they can dole it out to whomever they care to buy votes from.
Very well said!
However, your truth and logic are probably wasted on that poster!
Only in the warped left-wing minds!
http://www.politico.com/blogs/click/2012/07/james-earl-jones-rips-tea-party-as-racist-128563.html
Sometimes you can’t just hide, you gotta come out of the closet and declare your viewpoints!
Ah yes! A black actor that admits he was brought up to be a racist and who is “always on MSNBC” that paragon of unbiased reporting – NOT! Your point is well made! After years of hauling in the loot as an actor respected by many, he finally comes out. I believe Harry Bellafonte did the same.
Before their “coming out” I had great respect for both performers!
Raye enlists the Grand Pooh Bah of the AMG Brownshirt crowd as his ‘Communications Director’ and you dare accuse JAKE of imbibing!?
Deflect much, Dannyboy?
Does talking like that make you feel good???
Try to name one thing Lepage has done to make him a bigot????
Wake up Rumpelstiltskin, he has consistently bashed gays, blacks, Jews and Native Americans.
To his credit his nepotism has been consistent. He even has his non adopted African American son from Jamaica as his caddy. A vote for Raye is a vote for the bigot Lepage!
Saying you do not like or support same sex marriage does not make you a bigot, sorry.
Lepage can’t run from his past, the bigot in the Blaine House needs to deal with it and quit crying.
Oposing gay marriage and believing that marriage is a sacred joining of one man and one woman does not make him a bigot!
Saying that the NAACP is a “special interest group” (which it is) does not make him a bigot!
When, and how, has he bashed Jewish people or Native Americans. I read the papers every day and I do not recall any.
Bigot? Perhaps you should look in the mirror!
Selective misremembering by a tighty-righty. Lepage turned his back on the military and ran to Canada, his yellow stripe is dripping down his back.
plus he bashes State employees, teachers, poor people (they shouldn’t all be painted with the same brush)
A vote for Michaud is a vote for Eric Holder (aka June 28th, Contempt of Congress vote). The man who signed off on fast n furious… selling guns to the Mexican drug gangs… used to murder Agent Brian Terry.
Sorry, that program began with the Bush regime. The vote by the do-nothing Republican congress was another stunt by the right, too bad they don’t care about the Terry family. Raye and Lepage are joined at their bulbous hips.
It morphed into the gun selling to Mexican drug gangs in 2009… Mr Bush was very much an ex president when that happened.
As you admit the program started with the Bush regime.
No one made such an admission. It is a figment of your left/liberal/progressive imagination!
Correct!
It was modeled after the gun smuggling schemes of Oliver North under the brain dead Reagan regime.
Wow! How far back do you want to go to blame republicans for the Aboma (abominations of Obama) actions? Lincoln was a republican. Will your logic (or lack thereof) make that reach?
to the beginning of time :]
Thanks! You make my point!
Actually no if you know your history and don’t suffer from republican amnesia you would realize that most of our problems are a direct result of republican reticense and stupidity in dealing with anyone that doesn’t think like they do. There are actually alot of things that I agree with just not the method of getting there
No reason to bring Lepage like racism to this with your comments about the President.
Obama fear is unhinging the right.
Not true! Check your facts!
Totally true, your lies are wrong.
My lies? What lies? I stated an opinion.
However, another opinion is the real culprit in “Fast and Furious” is Obama who approved the program in an attempt to generate a pretext for an attack on 2nd amendment rights of americans “under the radar” as spoken to the brady gun grabbers in a white house meeting. Senators ISSA and Grassley will bring this out in due time despite the stonewalling and foot dragging by DOJ and Obama!
and you know this, how?
Sure…Right! Was that anything like the Iran-Contra Affair? or maybe arming the Afgans with SAMs to use against the Russians? You know..the ones used to kill American GIs later? How about the weapons given to Sadam to fight the Iranians? Neighter side has the bragging rights on civility. Ask Karl Rove or Dick Chenney.
Mike Michaud has done NOTHING positive for Maine people. Kevin Raye ripped off Ron Paul voters, like he was swatting a fly.
Michaud’s office has done great things for the Veterans of Maine.
raye=lepage
More Republican, “Dark Money” for Rayr.
This is great news. Kevin Raye is a solid guy with the right ideas. Michaud is a follower who does what Nancy and crew tell him. Here’s hoping the 2nd District makes the correct decision.
Go Raye! Go Summers! Go Courtney! Go Romney!
Fellow Mainers, just remember the 2010 mid-term elections. Show the country that we are not all automatons. We can think independently and get off the federal teat. Michaud just promotes that mind set. I had the terrible misfortune to sit in a jury pool with this dolt of a man last November. Even thought the court officer told us that we needed to turn off all cell phone, labtops, and other electronic devices” , this clown palmed his cell phone the whole two days I had to breath the same air. He is the problem with Washington. He never shut his mouth either. If he wasn’t whispering to people around him, he was chortling like a little school girl.
I could vote for Kevin Raye if I could forget how Lepage has lead him around on a leash for the last two years.
When I think “leash” I think Pelosi/Michaud more than Raye and anyone.
LAME! Lepage needs to get his leash out.
Wel, lets see where I should begin—-Mike is a “BLUE DOG DEM>!!!!” and as such should really have an “R” instead of a “D” with his name anyway. He really never stood with the Dems. on alot of votes!!! I am not even sure who I’ll vote for come Nov. 6 even if I have been a life long Dem. There isn’t that much diff. between them—put them both in a pok, close your eyes and pull one out and guess who it would be————?????
sorry findit, but you need to double check your facts… Mike is NO Blue Dog! He is voting with Nancy Pelosi 89% of the time this session. Even better he has voted Democrat party line 93% of the time for his career in Congress. That is NO Blue Dog. Check the facts.
http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/112/house/members/
I REALLY, REALLY dislike this type of article. It’s bad enough that we have to listen to the candidates boast about who collected more money! I really don’t want to read articles about how collecting more money is a reason to vote for anyone. That isn’t even a legitimate popularity contest since some people/entities have more money than others.
My votes are ALWAYS cast based upon a candidate’s positions on the important issues, on their ideas about how to approach known problems, on their ability to prioritize and identify the most important issues, on their ability to LISTEN to the people, on their ability to converse and communicate rather than their ability to manipulate and dominate, etc…
Instead of reading articles about reports compiled about who collected more money I’d so much rather read a report on each candidates take on all of the important issues. How come no one ever puts a report together like that for the public? I think all political candidates for any office should be required to sit in a room and provide written answers to questions about the important issues before they are announced as a candidate for the position. I mean really, it’s a JOB they are competing for, an important JOB!!! Isn’t it more important to know how well they are suited to the job than it is to know how much money their team can accumulate?
I would like to challenge the BDN and the individual candidates to compile a report based on each candidates answers to questions about the most important issues facing them if they are elected. Put that report out there in the paper word for word. Do NOT allow the candidates to take it back to their office so their staff can fill out the paperwork with all the “right” answers. Don’t tell them in advance what questions are on the “test” that will be used to compile a report of their own written responses. Too bad I don’t really believe that any candidate would ever willingly engage in such a challenge… instead they would rather do what they are doing now – point to the money and expect people to choose based on who has more. Ugh… politics! Don’t I just dislike political tricks and games!
Mike needs to retire so he can enjoy his million dollar house.
This State will never get any better if the people elect Mike one more time.
Write in R. Blaine Richardson, Belfast!
The article does not include that George Soros contributed a substantial amount to Mike last year.
Kevin’s contributions include pro-abortion groups, also. Can not vote for either one.
Ah….so it’s an auction not an election…..I think I’ve got it now!
Raised more money than Mike. Big deal. What has he done for the state?
Raye doesn’t even have the courage to stand up to a sniveling bully like Paul Lepage, he will do nothing to fight for Maine’s interests in DC.
SOMEONE NEW. Its a good thing . Hope he can leave any political baggage at home and start fresh. To bad we still have this 2 party system and not the person of merit. Lots of stories lately about how Mikes office doesn’t respond to the citizens.
JamesB62—you should check with Mike’s office—-Having admitted that he was a “BLUE DOG DEM” and voted that way multiple times, your full of it coming up with facts that do not hold up to the record!!!
push the glasses up Kevin. Mike is already 10 times better looking than you. Make this 1 simple change for God’s sake. Do you enjoy looking so goofy?
This was supposed to be in response to MEplyydog
So, just because I like clarity, are you saying that Liberals don’t reason with anyone, but Republican conservatives do? Because, friend, that is just amazingly myopic sight you have there.
It isn’t the liberals who are stalling every jobs bill that comes up, nor are they voting down anything that looks like it may have a tax as part of the plan.
They also have filibusterd a record number in one term. So do us a favor and give credit where it is due.
drat….double post.
findit – You are simply ignoring the facts. Yes, Mike is a “member” of the Blue Dog Caucus, but he DOESN’T vote with them! Check the facts for yourself. While other members of the Blue Dog Caucus vote with their party 80% of the time, Mike has a career record of 93%! 89% if you count just this session alone. I provided you the link to the Washington Post for you to check out, they are hardly a GOP partisan source.
