OTISFIELD, Maine — School Superintendent Rick Colpitts told the Oxford Hills School District Board of Directors that a riding tractor has been stolen from the Otisfield Community School.
Colpitts said the tractor had been housed in an on-site storage unit where “the lock had been cut.”
Because the school has a $1,000 deductible on thefts such as this, school officials said they will have to look elsewhere for replacement costs.
“It won’t be helping us out,” he said of the school’s insurance. “We’re looking at options.”
This is not the first time vandals have stolen materials from the school, located on a remote stretch of Powhatan Road.
In December, Colpitts reported to directors that someone cut copper lines from an oil tank at the Otisfield Community School during the Thanksgiving recess. About 100 gallons of oil spilled onto the ground.
The Department of Environmental Protection was notified and clean-up efforts were made. The school’s insurance and the DEP’s insurance program covered the cost of the cleanup.

“School officials said they will have to look elsewhere for replacement costs.” No problem, just keep cutting teachers, and support personnel. Eventually the only thing we’ll be turning out of our schools is expert tractor thieves. And the circle continues.
