AUGUSTA, Maine — A prisoner-of-war flag is being raised at the governor’s mansion to honor and remember Mainers who were prisoners of war or went missing in action while serving the country.

Richard Giroux, commander of a Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Old Orchard Beach, will present the flag to first lady Ann LePage during a flag-raising ceremony Wednesday afternoon at the Blaine House in Augusta.

The flag presentation is a kick-off to the first POW/MIA Recognition Day, which is scheduled in September to pay tribute to the more than 500 POWs and MIAs from Maine.

  1. We must not ever forget.  Ever.  Each one of these soldiers paid more than we will ever know and when you add in the families left behind, there are many, many others who were affected.
BUT-I have to say this, too: it upsets me that this flag that represents so much honor will be flown on the roof of the Blaine House, while underneath it sits a governor who spent the ‘Nam years in Canada.  Let us not forget that, either.

    1. The draft dodger in the Blaine Mansion doesn’t give a fiddler’s fig that he’s in fact a coward.

See, he’s all grown up now and became a Teabully politician.

So many of these right wingnut pols never even served or if they did, they had a cushy billet.

Thank you to those who truly served
