CALAIS – Dorothea Jeanne “Dottie” McKeown, 86, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at a Bangor health care facility. Dottie was born Feb. 8, 1926, in Alexander, daughter of the late Lester and Gladys (Perkins) Craft.
She attended local Alexander schools and she married her love, James McKeown, May 4, 1946. They moved to Calais, where she raised her six children. Dottie was a laundry manager for many years at Stacey’s Motel, Calais, now known as Calais Motor Inn. She faithfully watched Souls Harbor television program out of Bangor where Pastor Ron Libby often dedicated songs to her. Dottie was a member of Woodland Baptist Church, Baileyville, and enjoyed spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, James McKeown; son, David McKeown; sister, Verna Thistlewood; and brother, Gerald Craft. Surviving are her fivechildren, Dianne Graham and husband, David, of Bradley, Duane McKeown of Phoenix, Marvin McKeown and companion, Becky Seigars, of Wiscasset, Donna Barry and husband, Fred, of Orrington, and Barry McKeown and wife Larissa, of Phoenix; 10 grandchildren, Tania Cody and companion, Jeff Joy, Niesje and Michael McKeown, Troy Leavitt and wife, Amy, TJ Leavitt and wife, Heather, Brandy and Toni Kelley-McKeown, and Patrick, Brandon and Karissa McKeown; eight great-grandchildren, Taylor and Will Cody, Cassie and Kiely Leavitt, Ethan and Evan Leavitt, Christian Doyle and Caden McKeown; daughter-in-law, Marie McKeown of Baileyville; special niece, Jan Mallory of Baileyville; and “extended family” at Westgate Manor, Bangor.
