BANGOR, Maine — A local transient was charged with disorderly conduct and refusing to submit to arrest Thursday after he allegedly set off an alarm at a local pharmacy, according to police.
Officers responded to the Eastern Maine Healthcare Mall Pharmacy on Union Street after David Tenney, 22, set off a panic alarm just before 6 p.m., according to a news release from Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards.
Tenney had walked into the pharmacy with two large knives on either side of his belt and was told by security to take them off, according to the release.
Agitated, Tenney ignored the security personnel’s request, and the officer set off the alarm, the release stated.
When Officer Tim Shaw and Sgt. Jim Buckley arrived on scene, Tenney continued to resist.
“Tenney became upset, then began to yell obscenities, was uncooperative and had to be restrained by both officers,” Edwards stated in the release.
Officer Jason Linkletter and Lt. Steve Hunt, who was off duty and was in the area, also aided in subduing Tenney, the sergeant said.
Tenney was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center for a medical evaluation. When he was released he was charged with disorderly conduct and failing to submit to arrest but was not arrested.
Shaw suffered minor injuries in the scuffle and was treated at EMMC and released.

Walking around with large knives, being disrespectful to security personnel and smirking in police photos… he’s only 22, there is still time to grow up a bit. I HOPE. geesh.
Well… maybe not smirking but sure looks smug. :/
Folks working in or near Pharmacies these days look at everyone differently than they did several years ago. Those with no ill intentions should know that.
I go to the pharmacy a lot for cigarettes & nail polish (silly as that sounds)
I don’t go in without my cell phone, in case I am the first one to notice something amiss. :/
That’ smart-My daughter is a retail pharmacist-one should never make that call while the thief is still in the store. Everyone’s nightmare is a hero packing a 45 instead of a cell phone that decides to handle the situation without the police. The safest scenario for everyone is to get that person out of the store and let law enforcement take over. Even if they don’t catch the bad guy some high school kid working at the photo stand doe not become a victim.
Today’s Transient In the News!…
Just one?
You can label him as a transient but he is a product of the Bangor Educational system.
