Cynthia Dill, the Democratic candidate in Maine’s U.S. Senate race, said Thursday that her party’s silence in the state’s Senate campaign “is deafening,” and she called on the U.S. senator in charge of the Democrats’ Senate campaign efforts to get behind her candidacy.

“Votes — not personalities — will change policies to help American families,” Dill wrote in a letter sent Thursday to Patty Murray, chairwoman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in Washington, D.C. “With this historic opportunity to turn Maine’s red seat blue and ensure a progressive agenda this November, the DSCC must not abandon its principles and supporters.”

So far, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has declined to throw its support behind Dill in a race which former Gov. Angus King is leading by a wide margin in polls. And while King says publicly that he hasn’t decided whether he’ll caucus with Democrats or Republicans if elected, political observers in Washington, D.C., consider him more likely to caucus with Democrats.

King’s campaign says he will caucus with a party if that’s what’s required in order to get a committee assignment.

Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesman Matt Canter said Thursday that Murray, a senator from Washington, had spoken with Dill about her letter.

“The senator told her that the DSCC would continue to monitor the race,” Canter said.

In a news release issued after her conversation with Murray, Dill called the chatter surrounding whether the Democratic committee would back her candidacy “one big distraction.” She said that by staying out of the race, the Democrats were missing a chance to support a “true middle-class campaign” that aligns closely with the Democratic agenda.

“The silence from Washington is deafening, has taken voters’ focus from the issues that families care about, and does nothing to address the concerns of the people of Maine,” Dill said. “This is Washington politics and drama once again getting in the way of progress for ordinary Americans, as Beltway insiders broker deals, hedge bets and pick winners and losers. It’s the same old song and dance, and Maine voters are tired of it.”

Thursday wasn’t the first time Dill criticized the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee since she captured her party’s Senate nomination last month in a four-way primary.

In a fundraising appe al she sent to supporters late last month, Dill wrote, “Don’t let the DSCC and other beltway insiders decide who Maine’s next United States Senator will be. We know these groups don’t share our ideals and will not fight for working families, small businesses and Maine values.”

Dill has trailed King and her Republican opponent, Secretary of State Charlie Summers, in recent polls and in campaign fundraising.

  1. If the democratic party would stop picking such horrible candidates then maybe these problems would not keep happening.

    1. Take a step back and take long look at the gop candidates, they are the scum of the earth.

      1. Right, but being the lesser of two terrible candidates is not the best way to serve the people of Maine.

  2. It’s obvious even to a Republican like myself that Angus will hold a lot of power on capitol hill if elected. And yes, he will back the Democrats, for he is more left, than the average democrat, and the DNC knows it.

    1. RE “It’s obvious even to a Republican like myself that Angus will hold a lot of power on capitol hill”

It is not obvious.  Angus is of course counting on you and others to believe such nonsense.  Running as a D or R, he would hold more power than as an I.

    1. I believe Roxann Q is a people person,  she knows !  But all you Mainers if you want you have to get out and vote, or don,t complain latter, this is the year !

      1. With all the gates and rocks blocking access to favorite fishing holes in the north woods she sure dosen’t look like a people person from here !

        1. Absolutely correct, woodchuckranger.  Roxanne Q is a “Roxanne Q” person. The people and organizations who help her appear to be a “people person”  are BOUGHT.  The people and local organizations she is unable to “buy” (what some RQ supporters have actually called the “indigenous”) know the real deal.

  3. I guess Ms Dill didn’t get the memo.  Harry Reid and the Dem leadership is supporting King for Senator.  Former Gov King is the most disingenuous candidate running for the Senate.  Cynthia, your party is being run by a bunch of social and fiscal progressives, like yourself, and as long as it stays that way they will never win the Blaine House or a Senate race here in ME ever again.

  4.  Good job.  Unfortunately the Democrats have no principles anymore..And their loyalty sucks..They tend to be like Republicans and many of us who worked for and supported Democrats for years have seen them for what they are now…..Wussies. Present company excepted.

    1. No principles because they’re not voting the party line? That’s not what principles are.

  5. Cynthia Dill said Thursday that her party’s silence in the state’s Senate campaign “is deafening,”

     sometimes silence speaks volumes :-/

    1. LOL…what did she think was going to happen?
It takes all of 10 minutes to figure out who and what she is.
She would have better luck running for something in Boston, and maybe she could bring Cain with her.

  6. That’s not true…..62 % of the voters voted against LaPage….He is a minority governor and that is not the way democracy should  be…..Public officials should be elected by a majority   50% plus 1 vote.

      1. well…we obviously won’t know that until Nov. – How ever, you may have forgotten that President Obama received the most votes for a presidential candidate in American history. Electoral = 365 McCain = 173.
The popular vote was 69,456,897 to 59,934,814

        1. most votes lol, yea for an unknown candidate, hopefully people see through him unlike the first time. too bad most of his background is sketchy at best or so it seems.

        2. I counted 16 Presidential elections where there were more electoral votes than B Obama’s 365, including the most Electoral Votes ever was for Ronald Reagan when he was reelected for his second term with 525. In fact George H Bush won with more garnering 426 electoral votes.

Obama was indeed elected by the most votes ever but as a percentage of the popular vote his margin of victory ranks 25th historically. I have heard from leftists of his overwhelming popularity but historically his popularity is fairly low.  In fact only one President has been re-elected with having favorability ratings as low as Obamas is now. That was George Bush.

    1.  no. always hoping for 51% of the vote pushes out third parties. maintaining our current 2 party system is one of the primary reasons the country is falling apart. 2 parties = one giant game of good vs evil, red vs blue, us vs them… it ALL ends in fail.

      1. Exactly. If you’d require a 51% to win, then only two parties could run. This is partly why we see fewer 51%. If multiples over two run, it dilutes the vote.  In either case, statistically,
all that would happen is to force people to decide between two.

        1. no more than 2 parties could run.  If no party recieves more than 50% then you have a runoff among the top 2.

      2. Historically, our country has always been a 2 party system, whether it’s WHIGs, D’s, R’s, No Nothings…It usually came down to 2 parties.

    2. “62% of the voters voted against LaPage”.  Well 81% voted against the Democrat candidate and the Liberals agenda because most of that 81% elected the Republican Majority in both houses of the Legislature.  I wonder why because Maine for the last 40+ years has been at the bottom of the barrel in the economy .  With all of the factories closing, other businesses and people leaving in droves. Being replaced by worst of the worst  Very Lazy Mooching Welfare Bums, Radical Liberal Special Interest Groups, Enviros taking over with their radical green agenda, and Ex-Liberal Politicians who want taxpayers to continue to pay for them after they leave office with handouts. If that isn’t more than enough reason to kick out the Dems well the Liberals don’t get it. Because they did everything to take all of our money out of our wallets, destroy our quality of life and take away our rights with the Restrictive Nanny State of theirs.  Only a buffoon who lives off of taxpayers would continue to see our state and economy head on a path to bankrutpcy.  If things aren’t slowly turning around why did the head of the Maine Democrat Party Ben Grant finally start admitting that LePage’s policies are working because we aren’t last economically anymore.

    3. On no! We’ve got a Govenor who says it like it is, instead of BS and fiscal destruction from the last two clowns, and one of them is running for Senator? Heay once in a while the people do win.

    4.  When the Libs spit their vote by running two candidates, that’s the risk they take!

    5.  You never have a problem with that when a democrat wins.

And by the way, we are NOT a democracy.  We are a republic.

  7. Didn’t she get the memo?  The Dems intentionally voted in the WORST candidate so that there would be no splitting of the votes with Angus King.  They were trying to avoid another Lepage/Mitchell/Cutler fiasco.

  8. Patience Cyndy. Fight the good fight. Your job in this election is to be the democrat’s sacrificial lamb. You will be rewarded later by not only your party but by the good people of Maine. 2014 is only two years away and the people of Maine will be shopping for a new Governor.

  9. I don’t think it’s personal. We just don’t want another LePage split vote situation to happen again.

  10. Sorry, Cynthia, I wouldn’t vote for you, if you were the only person on the ticket, I doubt you will crack 10% of the votes.

  11. This was the most powerful statement in the whole piece…
“King’s campaign says he will caucus with a party if that’s what’s required in order to get a committee assignment.”
I can’t stand on principle, I’ll be with whoever gives me something in return.  Or, I take my ball and go home.

    1.  Re ” I’ll be with whoever gives me something in return.”

And so where will the Dems be if the Republicans promise a better deal, causing King to give them the vote they need to gain control of the Senate?

    2.  And you expected something else from this Virginia-born scalawag? You think the lap-top computers for school children were for their education, or to pad his financial portfolio?

  12. At last, a sensible intelligent voice in RevOleson about an hour ago. Thank you, RevOleson, for your comment!

I couldn’t agree more. It’s heartbreaking to watch the weaselly behavior of that increasingly soulless party machine that calls itself the Democratic Party. That goes in spades for the Maine state version. With Maine Democratic Party values and practices little distinguishable from those of Maine Republicans, it’s small wonder we have such a shameless opportunist as Angus King on the way to gulling a successful margin of voters yet another time.

It’s particularly heartbreaking to see how shabbily the party is treating Cynthia Dill, that increasingly rare variety of Democrat, a truly principled individual who actually tries to represent the interests of her constituency. Seeing her betrayed, a certain chilling scene flashes into my head from the film “Serpico.” If you’ve seen this film, you’ll know which one it is.

I’m so glad Cynthia Dill is speaking out and refusing to fall silently on her sword to suit unworthy party leaders. Perhaps she hasn’t a chance in a race marked by the slick marketing of Mr. King and the inevitability that the Tea Party peasants of Maine will join their superbly affluent betters in voting Republican if for no other reason than that the official Libertarian Fascist Party hasn’t yet been organized.

One thing I do know, whatever her odds I’m voting for Cynthia Dill. If you believe in old-fashioned progressive Democratic Party values and a candidate who is only beholden to ordinary working people, then I hope you too won’t pass up the opportunity to vote for Cynthia Dill.

    1. Progressive Democratic Party values that have led to an entitlement class that feels that those of us who support this nation owe them everything. I will not vote for Ms. Dill as she would never vote to cut entitlements.

      1. Progressive Democratic Party values that have led people who worked for 50 years,( paid their taxes, including FICA and Medicare), to believe they are “entitled” to collect their portion of the promises made to them during the past 50-70 years.  I will vote for Ms. Dill as she would never pull the rug out from people who have paid their TAXES and INSURANCE for 50+ years.

        1. Again you dems miss the point. I am not talking about soc. sec. or medicare but about those who feel that we have to pay for their children. If you cannot afford to raise children then do not have them. I take care of my family others should do the same.

          1. I agree with you about children, although most people don’t realize how expensive children are until after they have them.  If you are sincere, and I think you are, you should stop using “entitlements” as a dirty word.

People truly should expect to, or be “entitled” to receive payments for all they’ve paid into and contracted for if necessary.  That goes for auto insurance, homeowners, disability insurance, life insurance, social security, health insurance, 401Ks, annuities, etc.

I really wish people would start using the correct phrases – it’s the GOP that turned “entitlement” into a dirty word – I wish people could see the changing word usage as the propaganda it is.

          2. Patsy, how’s this then: “takers”.  (Oh, and preemptive strike, before you start with the slurs: I’m a licensed master social worker who gladly toils day in and day out to help the disadvantaged, helpless, and hopeless……whoever they may be)……

          3.  Do you extend that help to someone who doesn’t have their papers?Or can you not call INS fast enough?

          4.  I would surely call I.N.S. in a heartbeat.  These foreign non-citizen leeches need to be booted back to the third world slum from which they came.

          5. Try the word “recipients.”  If you are a MSW, then you are not happily toiling – if you are referring to your clients as “takers,” and if you truly see the “recipients” that way, you are probably burning out, and may have a skewed vision of the human race from dealing with people’s problems for too long.

I know that I’m suffering from caregiver burnout too, having worked as an RN for over 35 years, after working as a Nurse’s Aide during H.S. & College, and throughout my Nursing career too.  I have never looked down on my patients (they are often called clients now, too), and never treated anyone differently whether they have Private insurance, Medicare or Medicaid.  Actually, I wouldn’t even have the TIME to look it up in their charts if I wanted to – it doesn’t matter to me.

          6. What about all the people collecting the “entitlements” who’ve never paid a single nickel into it? That is the problem. What about Earned Income Credit, do you think that’s fair?
I agree, entitlements is not the correct word, parasites fits much better.

          7.  That is the elephant in the room that nobody will talk about.SS/Medicare were supposed to be for THOSE THAT PAID IN and since many women were still stay at home moms then, their spouses. Now it’s a gravy train for anyone with a made up disability at age 18.And there are plenty of people out there who will coach them to get on the system for life.

          8. I’m sorry, I don’t know too much about the Earned Income Credit, except just that – people must have earned their income to qualify for it.  I’m pretty sure it was meant as an incentive for the working poor with children – I don’t know where it went from there.

Parasites is not the word I’m looking for – the word should be “Recipients” of whatever program we are talking about, so as not to denigrate fellow human beings, whose personal histories we know nothing about.

          9. You are incorrect with regard to the EIC. People oftentimes get back far more than they ever paid in, particularly if they are low-income with several children. Some get back everything they paid in, with an additional check for thousands. The EIC has also been rife with fraud. The IRS calculates they’ve paid out a billion dollars to people who were ineligible, including illegal immigrants and those filing fraudulent returns. If you google “IRS Earned Income Credit Fraud,” you will find numerous articles on the web.

          1. because pols have already borrowed (that’s code for drained) every cent from soc. sec. already.  All Social Security holds is a big fat IOU from the Feds (2.5 trillion+/-) sitting in an empty coffee can.   Medicare actually HAS money in it – so pols will  grab money out of the full coffee can.

In actuality, Obama is not taking anything out of existing Medicare funds.  He plans to limit the amount of expansion by 500 Billion over the next ten years.  That attempt will be an exercise in futility, considering the huge boomer retirement onslaught.  Obama plans to to accomplish this by continuing the policies of his four predecessors, and cutting reimbursements to MD’s and Hospitals every year.

Unfortunately, the healthcare community can no longer take ANY more cuts after 30 years of successive annual cuts;  that is why 1 out of 3 Hospitals will be out of business by 2020.  I’ll add my 2-cents here to predict that 1 out of 3 Nursing Homes will be out of business within the next 5 years.  That is my field, and the cuts have been more vicious and severe than I have ever seen.  It is pathetic – I guess we could send all the elderly (they use up the majority of Medicaid $, by the way- a fact pols will never admit to, yeah, send the elderly up to Alaska where the Palin family can put them on ice flows – it would make a great reality show, and the Palins seem ready to move on to their next money making scheme.

Obama is fully aware of the damage he intends to inflict – that makes him just as pathetic as Romney in my view.

          2.  “…limit the amount of expansion by 500 Billion over the next ten years.”

Oh geez I’m ROTFL!!! The baby boom generation is moving into Medicare age (73 million of them) and you don’t see the removal of a 500b as a cut?

Obama is just another in a line of figure-head presidents.  I don’t think he has had an idea of his own in his life, UNLESS you count the idea to run for President….which was probably Rahm Emanuel’s

      2. No, I’m referring to progressive Democratic Party values that among many other good things put an end to child labor, instituted the eight-hour work day, set workplace safety standards and fair bargaining rights for workers, established Social Security and a social safety network for the indigent and infirm, protected our Constitutional rights and ended segregation and other forms of institutional racism.

No, old-fashioned progressive Democratic Party values, as observed for the most part by every Democratic President from FDR through Jimmy Carter, is not at all about establishing the bogeyman the neo-con propaganda machine is pleased to call “The Entitlement Class.” In fact, if ever there was an entitlement class it is made up of the very people — the out-of-control filthy rich — who the neo-cons are actually speaking for.

        1. you couldn’t have said it any better.  Exactly!  It is the filthy rich who are the “Entitled Class.”   They are precisely the people who use the word with such derision, while they keep the masses fighting among themselves for every little scrap…and it works too – this board full of misanthropes proves our collective point –  I refuse to give in to it.

          1.  When do “We the people” take our responsibility for some of this?

We elected the people who continue these policies.  We worked with our hands and heads to make the “rich” rich. We (US workers) accept our lot in life as readily as the lower class in India accepted their untouchable status.

Accept the status quo and no change is possible.

      3.  I agree HOWEVER you fail to mention that the Republicans ALSO favor “entitlements”, to the other group who “feels that those of us who support this nation owe them everything” that is the bankers, the insurance industry, The high-end medical practitioners, the pharmaceutical companies, and those who move their assets off-shore to avoid their responsibilities as citizens.

    2. Candidates such as Dill and Warren in MA give me hope. The more  young liberal female voices that are heard the better off we are.

  13. Ms. Dill should realize that her party will spend its money where it has a chance to win. She has no chance in this election.

  14. Dill is 100 % on target here, but she must remember that the President also was able to win despite the National Dem’s efforts to derail his candidacy as it was Clinton’s ” turn” so as to keep the status quo movers and shakers in power. I remember working for Paul Tsongas in Maine and at town meetings the talk was all about party bosses keeping thier entitlement power base, and exercising thier birth rate to thier “turn”. Libby Mitchell is the smartest politician now as we all know, as she was right on about Cutler! And King too will be the same spoiler if the Dems do not rally soon for Dill.

    1.  I remember working for Jerry Brown.  Few people know this, but Jerry Brown won the 1992 Maine caucus, but George Mitchell and other party leaders appointed all Clinton “Super Delegates” and stole the election.  This is the reason I moved to the “un-enrolled” voter category, and also the reason I don’t genuflect every time I hear or see the name George Mitchell.  Just another in a long line of political crooks.

  15. Ms Dill,

As a voting citizen of Maine and someone who is not exactly politically active, I can see that the Democrats ion Washington would rather back the Democrat in the race that can win, sorry the independent that can win.   You have no shot winning and they are not going to waste their money.

  16. As a political scientist by education and as a practitioner for several decades and as one who ran one of the larger PACs in Maine for over a dozen years…. political candidates should understand PACs are not bottomless pits of money that can or will give cash to any or every candidate.  They too need to assess where their assistance will provide success, or at least an opportunity of success. How a candidate fairs most of the time depends on the candidates appeal, work effort, and success in convincing a large enough share of the electorate to be in the running in the first place.

If you are pulling 7%, or 17% in polling…. the DSCC (Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee) or the DNC are not the problem.

  17. Dear Ms. Dill…..the latest public polling shows/projects you getting 7% of the support thus far….that is why no one is paying attention to you or your campaign….

  18. cindy, honey, its just not your year.

build allies, hone your message and next time don’t have the bad luck of running against Angus King.

  19. Maybe her whining will be heard and some DSCC money will be wasted here and helping Republican candidates in other states.

I hope you get some money Dill. Gotta love politics. :-)

  20. A lot of commentors are paying attention.
With  strong DSCC support Dill would beat Summers handily and we would have someone we could depend for a change.

  21. Isn’t it funny how fast the liberals throw their own under the bus, and for no good reason..

    1. Actually this is a relatively new, hopeful, political survival tactic.

They have finally been forced to come to terms with their definition of Progressivism-Equals-One-Big-Inclusive-Tent as a flawed construct. Liberals have long made fun of Republicans for their penchant to request political harakiri from their ideological rank when individual flaws (however manifested) surfaced in contradiction to the pragmatics of the political goal.

“We’re all the same.”  “We are one.” “We are the world.”…..until it’s time to elect just one,  of “us”, not that We would ever judge anyone else.

“We the People” represents the kiss of the brick wall upon the approaching hard landing.

      Hug that, Progs.

  22. I think something must be wrong with DC’s computer. Not one mention of either Baldacci or King in that last post.

    1.  Not to mention about liberal politicians getting handouts-Like Paulie boy won’t run to FL with an undeserved fat pension!I didn’t see him cutting the Blaine House food budget while he casually decimated the pensions and healthcare of actual hardworking Mainers.

      1. What, he’s not allowed to retire in FL?  WTF??  Many people retire to FL, get a grip.

  23. How effective would she be if she can’t get along with the leaders of her own party, not to mention she brought light to the fact she is so politically weak her party won’t waste any money on her campaign

  24. I think the bottom line is that a lot of people who would normally vote for a Democrat are so afraid of a repeat of what happened when LePage got elected  that they will go with Angus King just to make sure that Charlie Summers doesn’t get elected.

  25. The party’s silence in the state’s Senate campaign “is deafening,”(((NOT))) They are supporting the other Democrat, Anguish King.

  26. Why should the state Democratic Party support her, they already have their choice….Angus King

    1.  Drink much Kool Aid? I can’t imagine someone saying, “Yes things are bad, now I’ll vote to the guy making them worse.” I guess failure loves failure!!!

      1. Things are much better than 2008.

The 2nd Great Depression was right on top of us and recovery from a finanical meltdown takes time.  BTW, 4M+ private sector jobs created 2009 vs. 2M private sector jobs from 2001 – 2008 when W was president.

        1. Lol, the economy was cranking until 2008 I know because I’m in sales. Pres. Bush does deserve some blame for adding about a trillion dollars to the deficit. Pres. Obama added a trillion dollars in deficit in his first few months with a stupid corrupt stimulus plan that was supposed to keep unemployment under 7%. Instead the money went to the state and federal unions and unemployment went to 10% . BTW only two republicans voted for this stupid stimulus can you guess who? Since Obama has been president he has added more to our national debt than all the other presidents combined. Four more years of this poor leadership and we won’t even recognize the U.S.A.

          1. No offense intended, but the national debt at the end of W’s term was about $11T.  Today is about $15T.  That’s a lot, but Reagan and W. contributed far more to the debt than all other presidents.  Those are facts.  Truly.

          2. When I see all these ‘compelling facts’ from the HERITAGE FOUNDATION, I definitely take it with a grain of salt.  Spindoctors.

          3.  Um, 8 years each vs 3.5 years for obama!

Great comparison! Hope your grandchildren appreciate your leaving that debt for them to pay!

          4. Why do the Republicans throw around words like “corrupt” (i.e. taking bribes), as if words don’t have any meaning?
When they’re not accusing the capitalist Obamacare plan of being socialist, they are accusing honest people of being corrupt.
But to the surprise of many on the right, words have actual meanings.

          5. While its true that employment is way down, please know that 2012 has seen record earnings on WallStreet, positively affecting the NasDaq, the Dow and the NYEX.  While its true retail traders are fleeing the markets, large corporations are experiencing record profits.

The idea that the American economy at large is in trouble is a media mirage.  The real issue is parity:  those laid off in 2008 have yet to be absorbed in to the labor pool; and because wage disparity is at an time high.

I’m guessing mostly because of growth is shifting towards engineering and technology sectors, leaving many traditional workers behind.

        2. I am right, failure loves failure! And failure supports failure!

15 trillion in debt, 8.2 unemployment & $3.60 gas (just to name three)  is what you consider better? I’d hate to see what you call really good!!!!! Much more of your kind of prosperity and we will all be on welfare! Oh yea I forgot, that’s what you want!

Well with half the country not paying taxes, but receiving some form of assistance, your half way to your utopian dream!

That must be why obama is doing so outstandingly well int he polls! Should be a cake walk for him.

Please continue to ignore all the facts that are clear around you. Things look SO much better when your head is buried in sand!

  27. Sorry, Cynthia, you’re not crooked enough to run for a national office.  You wouldn’t survive five minutes on Capital Hill.

  28. Dill should have thought about her support for RQ and her personal monument Park when she was thinking about running. And Ben Grant and the State Democratic Committee should have done a lot more and better ‘vetting’ when they were working their way thru the Candidate’s. Extreme liberalism, in the face of tough economic times, has always been shown as a sure fire loser, and the fact that the State Committee didn’t do their research shows that it’s their own fault on this point. Maine needs responsible, practical and centrist leadership, from both side’s, if the State is gonna work itself thru and out of this current mess. The State, to it’s credit, has shown some improvement in the DECD itself reforming it’s State-support of new and re-locating business’s program’s and process’s, the Kestrel mess being the best example of learning thru experience and changing when needed, not on political ground’s. The Brunswick Complex is both another opportunity and example, and we are all waiting to see the outcome of the Bombardier effort, both in the aviation and the rail business’s. The same is being looked at in Millinocket and the Thermogen Plant development. Balanced, determined, deliberate and serious business development and management is what makes the business environment work here in Maine, not hoop-la speech’s that are full of promise’s and not much else.

If the Democrat’s want to make a serious showing then it’s time, NOW, for someone from the DNCC to take Cindy aside, in a VERY private meeting, and tell her to quit running off at the mouth like some 60’s hippy, like some collegiate SDS ‘preppie’, and concentrate on what all of Maine needs, not just what some campaign contributor wants her to be a talking head about in public. Maine needs serious and deliberate leadership. Augusta, in the Governor’s Office, has shown a serious, if not complete lack of that. The Legislature, on the other hand, finally said ‘ENOUGH ! ‘ last year in the Budget debate when Paulie used his veto as a justification for a very public temper tantrum and the Legislature overode the veto by over 2/3rd’s and passed the Budget despite Paulie’s whining and crying. What’s so sad now is that this same leadership, and the Legislature-wide concensus that was seen, is now all but gone because both Candidate’s are so determined to be ‘The One’ that’s seen as Maine’s Savior. If the respective Party’s want to see just why the State’s electorate is so ‘ticked off’ at the current political scene, well, they have only the closest newspaper and mirror to go to to see the reason’s. And if both side’s want to see the result’s of this all they have to do is look at King’s standing in the poll’s, even the most conservative one’s.

    1. I mostly agree with your post. However, it would be futile to suggest that someone  ~ “tell her to quit running off at the mouth like some 60’s hippy, like some collegiate SDS ‘preppie’, and concentrate on what all of Maine needs, not just what some campaign contributor wants her to be a talking head about in public.”~  You can’t change a leopard’s spots.
Dill has no concept of what life is like for Maine and it’s people beyond Cumberland County.

She could be better serving her party as a campaign manager, at best. (On the state level) The drama, hoopla and in-your-face baseless, “statements” are what Dill is known best for.
She doesn’t like the Q&A sessions after any one of her speeches of blurting out popular soundbites.  Why? She has no depth …. she CANNOT answer most questions.  Anyone watching closely can see the pattern of her flippancy of answering a question with another question.

You said it all, Mr. Kiernan, when you stated ~”Maine needs serious and deliberate leadership.”~  I believe the Dems are simply embarrassed that Dill got the support to run.

  29. I don’t care for any of the people running for the Senate, but if you take a good look at Kings term while he was Gov, you might think twice. The down slide started when he was in. One person asked him what was happening, his answer don’t worry about it other states are worse off then we are. And would not take anymore questions about it. This happened at SAM’s sport meeting in Augusta.

  30. This “social-progressive” left-winger is ashamed that Dill had to be put up for Angus King fodder. When King jumped into the race Chellie Pingree and Mike Michaud didn’t have the fortitude to run in a race they didn’t believe they could outright win; this has considerably altered my view of Congresswoman Pingree and as a result of their decisicions and lack of leadership this left winger is going to sit out this election, shame on our Democratic “non-leadership”; just get over the fact Cynthia Dill is simply a “token” candidate.

  31. Failure and free ride vs hard work and success. Oh yea, Liberals pick failure and free ride every time!

    1.  Poor example when conservatives are giving us Mitt Romney – a man who has spend his entire life avoiding hard work and living off the free ride mommy and daddy gave him.

      1. Actually, it’s not conservatives who are giving us Romney- it’s the elite of the Republican Party.  Mitt Romney, while he has espoused some conservative views, is most assuredly NOT a conservative.

        1. Really?  Because he sure does act like a conservative.  But then again, he’s the definition of what is wrong with our political system, he’ll act like whatever he needs to be to get elected.

        2. True.
Mitt Romney is neither liberal, moderate, nor conservative — he is an opportunist.
He ran for Senate as a liberal.  He ran for Governor as a moderate.  He claims he governed as a “severe conservative.”  He has changed his position on everything he ever said he believed in.  We have absolutely no idea what he would do as president, because you can’t count on him to keep his word or to be in any way consistent.
A vote for Romney is a vote for ?????

    2. What’s a liberal or a conservative anyway?  Most people have more nuance, more layers than that.  Most folks describe themselves as ‘fiscally conservative, socially liberal’ which fits in 100% with the Tea Party’s initiative of fiscal constraint and civil libertarianism.

Perhaps this is why Angus King is doing so well in the polls.  Most Mainers are tired of labels like yours and are seeking candidates capable of dialogue.

      1. You are actually addressing the subject of the article — the Senate race.
How strange that anyone would discuss the article!
        (Thank you!)

    3. I assume you were talking about Mitt Romney when you said free ride (son of a multi-millionaire) and failure (one of the worst job-creation records as governor; now opposes his one success — his own health care plan).

  32. Sorry, Ms Dill
We don’t want another Lepage repeat. Maine is an overwhelmingly Independent state. With Mr King as Senator we will have a reasoned voice in Washington. The radical extremes of both parties are loud and shrill, but the majority of Mainers are more moderate. It was telling that Ms. Snow had such broad support by Independents, yet the far right of her own party wanted to replace her. Time for some reason back in Washington.

    1.  King is an Independent, really. The Sussmans don’t think so, I am still waiting for King to take a stand on something. And if he is so independent why are the all the Dems supporting him? he is just another liberal feeding at the trough of public money.

  33. Ah hello!  It’s because AK is a dem running under the guise of an indy.  They are supporting him.

  34. Instead of whining about “the Party” she should get out and about and tell people who she is, and what she stands for.  If she doesn’t define herself, for sure, someone else will do it for her. I read papers, watch local news, and spend time on internet sites which discuss Maine politics, and I have no idea who Cynthia Dill is.

I really HATE the choices for the Senate Seat most recently occupied by Olympia Snowe.  I dislike them so much, I may write in Snowe’s name, admittedly “wasting” a vote.  Currently I feel that Maine would be better represented by a clam than by any of the current candidates.

  35. I once received an email from Dill, in support of RQ’s park. I am not a supporter of the park, and indeed, the park is very unpopular in the region. I would have simply deleted her email, except for one thing…it was full of misleading statements…propaganda really. So I replied,  explaining why I found these comments to be misleading. I also stated some of the reasons why most local area residents oppose the park.  Her response was that the local area residents would be out-voted by the people of southern Maine anyway.  Apparently the wishes of the local residents are not worthy of consideration if they do not agree with Ms Dill’s position. Ms Dill’s response was inappropriate for anyone expecting to be elected to higher office. Ms Dill, it is OK to agree to disagree.  It is not OK to make arrogant comments to Maine citizens simply because they do not share your views. It is not OK to tell me that my vote or my position do not matter.

  36. It’s interesting to me that almost nobody on this page is discussing the article — most are just hurling insults at the other party.

  39. Dill is in a pickle with her own party!   Looks like she cannot raise enough Dill Dough on her own, and the party is not about to spice up their ranks with Dill.

  40. I agree with many of Dill’s policies, but will not vote for her as a Dem, precisely because of the things she complains about in her letter to Murray.

Dems used to be the party for working people, but now not much different than the Repubs.

When they get a spine, and stand up to the Tea Crazies, I might consider giving them my vote again. Maybe…

    Until then, Green Independents!

  41. Miss Dill will never win any office that requires the support of the entire state and not just Cumberalnd county and far southern Maine, just becasue of her stance on the Second Ammendment. A gun-grabber cannot win in Maine.

  42. She should be like Dizzy Lizzy Warren and say
she is a Native American. The money will pour in.

  43. Democrats do not think Dill can win so they are putting their energy behind Angus King, a democrat disguised as an independent.    For democrats its anyone but a republican even if they must sacrifice one of their own.

  44. At least it’s a relief to know the Republicans aren’t the only party with batty women running rampant.

  45. I hope Dill has a lot of support down south, because Northern Maine really doesnt like her, and thats being very, very polite.

As soon the debates start, both King & Dill will be asked about where they stand on the Obama supported Quimby National Park.

They need to have at least “one” debate in Millinocket

      1. Enough to make a difference, enough to take a stand, & a life time of supporters to work against Quimby and her bought & paid for politician!

        1. The Maine Turnpike ends at Augusta.  Maine politics has followed this trend for decades.

    1. Just to let you know: Angus opposed the North Woods Park idea while he was Governor, long before Dill came along.

      1. But he is currently beholding to the Nature Conservancy, and until I hear that he will join the Maine Woods Coalition, and take a stand against Quimby’s Park, then he’s nothing more than a bought & paid for treehugger!

  46. Read the walls, Mainers — King is a Democrat in Independent clothing. Vote him into the US Senate only if you wish a recreation of his billion-dollar deficit, lousy performance as Maine’s governor.

Maine residents should send the King a message — we don’t need any more rich fatcats in DC, driving around in their Mercedes RV’s and spending other people’s money. We also don’t need any more wanna-be fatcats, like Dill.
