OLD TOWN and BUCKSPORT – Mary Ellen (Pelkey) Martin, 62, completed this life’s journey July 18, 2012, and went home to be with Our Lord. She started life with a bang July 4, 1950, daughter to Leonard and Clara (Michaud) Pelkey.
She was born in Lincoln, attended Hermon High School, married Thomas Martin of Bradley and spent many years as the dedicated owner of Merry go Round Daycare, Milford. Mary loved life and loved people. She was one of those give it all you’ve got sorts who lived her life to the fullest. She was passionate about all she held dear and dearest to her heart, and the joy of her life were her grandchildren who call her “Meme” and whose lives are forever transformed for the time spent with her. Mary loved visiting with her family and friends, running and attending church, especially the singing. She had a heart of gold and laughter surrounded her.
Mary will be forever remembered by her only daughter, Michelle and husband, Ronald Lozier, of Bucksport; four precious grandchildren, Kayla and Kody Walker, Margaret and Ethan Lozier, all of Bucksport; 14 siblings, Marion Fisher of Alaska, Lucy Andrews of Connecticut, Evelyn Ireland of Milford, Alice Combs of Vermont, Clara Cox of Florida, Thomas Pelkey of Eddington, Eileen Carey of Enfield, Philip Pelkey of Vermont, Cynthia Furlotte of Bangor, Christine Young of Alabama, John Pelkey of Vermont, Maurice Pelkey of Milford, Vera Averill of Burlington and Brian Pelkey of Washington; countless nieces and nephews who loved her greatly. She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Leonard “Bud” and Charles; one sister, Agnes; and longtime companion, Chet Powell.
Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, July 20, at Birmingham Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at Word of Life Christian Center, 1606 Outer Hammond St., Bangor.
