MILLINOCKET – Marie M. Rice, 79, wife of the late George W. Rice, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at her home. She was born May 22, 1933, in Van Buren, the daughter of Maxime and Winifred (Madore) Lavoie.

Marie was a communicant of Christ the Divine Mercy Parish. Marie loved her family, and followed her grandchildren’s activities ardently, never missing an opportunity to clip out any picture or article in the newspaper which featured any of them.

She is survived by five children, Sandy Gagnon and her husband, Peter, of South Berwick, Mike Hebert of Barrington, N.H., Ruth Hebert of Bangor, Frances Kunkel and her husband, Ken of Millinocket and Nancy Campbell and her husband, Jeff, of Millinocket; nine grandchildren, Michael Ann, Tracy, Kevin, Kenny, Michael, Heather, Kimber, Craig and Katelyn; four great-grandchildren, Bret, Owen, Jordan and Addison; a brother, Reginald Lavoie of Madawaska; three sisters, Joanne, Germaine Ayotte and Egline Ayotte; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and her husband, Marie was predeceased by a daughter, Brenda King; and siblings, Omer Lavoie, Everest Lavoie, Emery Lavoie, Corinne Cyr and Jeannette Thompson.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 119 Colby St., Millinocket, with the Rev. Joel Cyr, pastor, presider. Interment will be at Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Marie may be sent to Katahdin Area Support Group, 10 Field St., Millinocket, ME 04462.
