ROCKLAND, Maine — Bail was set Wednesday afternoon at $10,000 cash for a 33-year-old man charged with sexually assaulting a woman Monday night.

The police report filed in Rockland District Court also stated that Joshua J. Woodbury of Warren had been forcing the woman to have sexual relations with him for approximately two months.

“He has repeatedly physically prevented her from escaping him during that time,” the affidavit filed by Knox County Sheriff’s Office Detective Dwight Burtis stated.

The woman said that the latest offense occurred Monday morning when Woodbury pulled her into a tent on property in South Thomaston and forced her to have sexual intercourse.

The woman was able to sneak away while he was applying for a job at the Career Center in Rockland, according to the affidavit. She went to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, where she later met with a Rockland police officer.

Burtis stated in his affidavit that the woman — whom he described as a transient — had multiple bruises on her head, legs, arms and chest. The detective noted that he had a conversation with a nurse who performed the sexual assault examination of the alleged victim, and the nurse said the woman’s injuries were consistent with the claims of sexual assault.

Woodbury is on supervised release from Florida on charges of criminal restraint and assault, according to the affidavit.

The arrest warrant was obtained Tuesday and Woodbury was arrested at a home in South Thomaston where the tent was, according to the affidavit.

Judge Patricia Worth set bail at $10,000 cash or $50,000 surety.

Woodbury remained in jail late Wednesday.

  1. This guy is extremely dangerous. lets get him back to Florida sporting shackles without delay. He then needs to be incarcerated at the highest security level there is for public safety.

    1. I think Florida’s emphasis is on the RELEASE part not so much the supervised part….OY.

  2. So if the guy has $10,000 cash or a $50,000 surety, he can go free to do this again? What is wrong with this system? Something tells me he’ll get to plea bargain his way around this. Also, if he was on supervised release, who was doing the supervising? and why was he allowed to leave Florida and bring his criminal activities to Maine?

  3. ‘Woodbury is on supervised release from Florida on charges of criminal restraint and assault, according to the affidavit.’  well isn’t THAT lovely.  Ummmmm I’m fairly certain that what he did to this lady will fall under criminal restraint and assault……again….our legal system is FUBAR.
