FORT KENT and EAGLE LAKE – Joseph “Joe” Nadeau, 87, died peacefully July 25, 2012, at his home. He was born Jan. 22, 1925, in Winterville, the son of Ernest and Mamie (Soucy) Nadeau.

Joe was a member of Fort Kent Veterans of Foreign Wars Lozier O’Grady Post No. 9609 and American Legion of Eagle Lake. He served in the U.S. Army in the Office of Strategic Services. He worked for Great Northern Paper Co. as a forester for 45 years, for Charlie Leadbetter for more than 30 years, also working part time for the local telephone company for 43 years. Joe’s enjoyments were his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and volunteering for Catholic Charity of Caribou and St. Mary’s Parish, Eagle Lake. He took pride in taking care of the family farm on Soucy hill.

He is survived by his children, Sandra and her husband, James Deprey, of Fort Kent, Carl of Seattle, Keith and his wife, Linda, of Lenoir, N.C., Wayne and his wife, Jeanne, of South Burlington, Vt., and Lloyd of Mexico Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren, Tiffany, Nicholas, Matthew and Thomas; four great-grandchildren, Nathan, Noah, Ian and Isaac; one brother, George and his wife, Maureen, of Unionville, Conn.; one sister, Mildred McCarthy of Gloucester, Mass.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Dora (Saucier) Nadeau, in 2000; three sisters, Theresa Morneault, Rella Daniels and Lydia Brown; and two brothers, Everett and Edgar.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 27, and 8-9:30 a.m. Saturday at Daigle Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Eagle Lake. Committal services will be afterward in the parish cemetery.
