HOLDEN, Maine — A Bar Harbor man who told an officer he was rushing home because he was low on fuel was summoned for criminal speeding early Monday, according to police.
Shortly before 3 a.m., Officer Bruce Graybill clocked a silver 2002 Volvo at 83 mph headed south on Main Road in Holden in a 45-mph zone, Holden Police Chief Gene Worcester said late Monday morning.
Graybill stopped the vehicle, which was driven by Christian Emigh-Doyle, 21. Emigh-Doyle told Graybill he was speeding home because his vehicle was running low on gas.
Worcester said he wasn’t sure why Emigh-Doyle would have thought speeding would help him get home on what gas he had left.
“Going that fast just sucks up more,” the police chief noted.
Emigh-Doyle received a summons for Class E criminal speeding.

Ya just can’t fix STUPID . LOL
Sorry I didn’t read your post…great minds think alike! :)
And LePage wants to put the teachers liable for them.
…I see a future Politician in the making….
“Good morning sir. Im Officer Graybill, and I’ll be your ticketing officer today.”
What? You mean pressing down on the gas pedal doesn’t mean less gas is going to the engine?
Must be a liberal arts major – a little short on science.
I don’t think you declare a major in high school… :)
Last I knew, 21 was out of high school…
Are we actually arguing about whether this rocket scientist is going to college or not?
She’ll argue over everything
Apparently!
I never mentioned college, did I? I just said that 21 was out of high school.
Ya but if he was still in high school at the ripe old age of 21 :-/
Well then. He is 21 – if he is still in High School that would explain it!
There are at least two gas stations on Rt 1A in Holden. Guess this guy is dumb and blind.
There are at total of 4 of them but I’m not sure if any of them are open all night. The Irving most likely is but I’m not 100% sure.
Irving is open, and you canget gas (but not change back) at Dysart’s at G&M’s.
Well she was driving so fast she most likely missed the Irving and it sounds as if she never made it to the G&M’s.
You CAN”T fix stupid! :)
this is a first for me, never heard this one before. made me giggle….
This is almost as good as the lady driving her prius who ran the stop sign because her on dash gasometer told her she would would be getting poor gas mileage if she stopped.
This excuse is on par with “The dog ate my homework”. Either way, the reward for originality is an F.
Seems legit.
Hoping for highway miles perhaps?
I suppose that at 83 mph one would coast further after running out of gas than if only doing 45 mph and suffering the same fate….
another example of a mainer that went though a ‘quality’ maine public school
Because massholes are the pillar of driving etiquette….
Why is this news exactly??
Police Beat….proof of your tax dollars at work.
He was confused about what a “governor” does. Or better yet: He was following the new government fuel policy management practices.
If this guy ever buys an electric car-Plug in Prius , Nissan Leaf or Chevrolet Volt-he’ll be the guy with the 5265 foot cord.
Remember the Dinty Moore Beef Stew ad? In the middle of the desert, one prospector asks where the other plugged in the extension cord for his microwave. Answer: “Tuscon”.
LOL
Hah! Nice try, wacker. I once stopped a guy for speeding on Route 1 in NJ and when I got to the window he looked at me and said, with a completely straight face, “Dammit! That’s the last time I put Hi Test in this thing!” I couldn’t help it, I just busted out laughing at the guy.
Space cadet. Neither tech knowledge nor common sense.
A man with a hyphenated name is always wrong.
I don’t trust people whos first name is a letter. F.Lee Bailey, and the like…
On the dash it states miles per hour. He only lived 1/2 hour away…
Wow, that is the dumbest thing I have heard in a long time…And I have heard many dumb statements lately. Common sense is not common. Personally, I think the guy just liked to drive fast and thought the officer who stopped him was dumb enough to fall for his story. Or he thought the officer needed a good laugh.
He must of gone to the Al Gore seminar on how to save fuel
Um……… big deal. Got a knuckle head for speeding. How about getting the crack head with the 8-ball. That would be news.
Good try buddy! lol
