SKOWHEGAN, Maine — Police in Skowhegan were able to kill two birds with one stone early Sunday, arresting a man for criminal trespassing and a woman with multiple warrants for assault at the same scene, police said.

Authorities were sent to a North School Street residence just after midnight when Dylan Hurlbutt, 31, of Canaan refused to leave what a gathering at the home of Jay Moore, according to Skowhegan Deputy Chief Dale Lancaster.

That prompted police to arrest Hurlbutt for criminal trespass, Lancaster said.

While police were at the scene they identified Brittany Bickford, 35, of Skowhegan, who had warrants for assault and refusing to submit to arrest, according to the Somerset County Jail’s website.

When officers questioned Bickford she gave them a fake name, Lancaster said. And when they tried to take her into custody officers had to use physical force, and she burned one officer’s shirt with a cigarette before being subdued, according to the Lancaster.

Both suspects were taken to the Somerset County Jail. Bickford has since been released on $815 bail, and Hurlbutt was released on $100 bail.

  1. “Multiple warrants for assault.”

If I were Mr Hurlbutt, I’d be leaving town.

  2. Why such a small bail amount? $100…oh yeah…let’s get him! and her…only $815 for assualting a police officer?

  3. I don’t understand why people try to resist arrest, it certainly doesn’t help their situation and do they really think they are going to get away?
