BELFAST, Maine — Who says teenage boys don’t have a deep, abiding love for their hometowns?

Zach Collier, Will Mossing and Mike McFadden, all 16, like to wear their “I Love Belfast” T-shirts around town.

The teens purchased the shirts from the Chocolate Drop Candy Shoppe on Lower Main Street.

“We think it’s funny, because they’re made for tourists,” Mossing said, hinting that there may be more irony than community pride involved.

Chocolate Drop Candy Shoppe manager Dawn Desmaris said the store began having the shirts made last year after customers told her how much they love Belfast.

Belfast sports teams and their boosters also are fond of the shirts, which are made at Searsport’s Inner Sense Screenprinting and can be customized.

  2. what’s with the odd Belfast human-interest stories lately?
    “mystery” old lady…
    teenagers buying t-shirts…

    1. I wondered the same thing..A restaurant moves and it makes the paper..The BDN’s love for the moon bat haven of Belfast is probably the reason…LOL…

    2. BDN is in direct competition with Belfast’s Republican Journal.

Fortunately there are more good stories coming out of Belfast lately than bad. Thumbs up as far as I’m concerned.

  3. Unless Belfast is a new slang term for a sexual act that I am unaware of, I don’t think there’s much more irony than community pride involved here unless they’re just big fans of Ireland

    1. It’s a human interest story.  It can’t all be about the economy, the gays, and Syria.
