BANGOR AND VEAZIE – George S. Miller, 94, passed away Aug. 6, 2012, at a Bangor nursing home. He was born Feb. 5, 1918, in Bangor, son of Wallace F. and Elizabeth Minnie (Robinson) Miller.
George served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in the Pacific Theater. He worked as a hand sewer for factories in Old Town and Bangor, and was a baggage handler for Maine Central Railroad for several years. George was later a custodian at Garland Street School and Dow Lanes, Bangor, for many years. He also was a floor manager for roller skating rinks at the old Silver Slipper, Milford, and Auto Rest Park, Carmel. George was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church
He is survived by his children, Frances DeRoche and husband, John, of Bangor, and Dwight Miller and wife, Deloris, of Newburgh; grandchildren, Brandon, Jeremy, Tonya and Wendy; and great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Megan, Austin, Kayla and Aaron; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Josephine Miller; and sister, Arlene LaChance. The family thanks the entire staff of Maine Veterans Home for the wonderful care that George received.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the service at Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
