FRIENDSHIP – Peter Alexander, 83, died peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at his home in Friendship. He was born Oct. 27, 1928, in New York City, son of the late Charles J. and Helen Hussey Alexander.
Peter grew up in Larchmont and South Salem, N.Y. After graduating from Admiral Billard Academy in New London, Conn., Peter was appointed to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y., but was unable to attend due to injuries from a serious automobile accident. He joined his father and brother, Charles in the family textile business in New York City, and became vice president of the Highland Spun Mill in Camden, ME. Later he worked for Parker Herbex Corporation, Stamford, Conn. He was founding president of the Jefferson Club, Ridgefield, Conn., where he was very active politically and with the Knights of Columbus. In 1971, he moved with his family to Waldoboro, where he operated a contract cage house, the Alexander Egg Farm, on Route 220, South Waldoboro. All the children picked eggs and helped feed the birds and clean the hen house. The cage house burned in 1983. Peter then worked for Osram Sylvania, Waldoboro and at State liquor stores until his retirement in 1988. He and his wife moved to Martin Point, Friendship in 1996.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; seven children, 17 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. His wife Jean, who died in 1982, was the mother of their daughters, Patricia Klindworth, Robin Pasquarosa and Sandy Beaulieu; and sons, Scott, Bruce, Andrew and Alex Alexander. Peter’s grandchildren include William, Drew and Alec Klindworth, Anthony and Alessandra Pasquarosa, Cassandra, Peter and Matthew Alexander, Brandon Alexander, Aaron Beaulieu, Lindsey Alexander Kassatly, Zachary, Alexis and Taylor Alexander, and Brittany, Peter, and Ashlyn Alexander. Peter is survived by his elder brother, Charles J. Alexander Jr. of Osprey, Fla.; and sister, Ann Lenardson Yates of The Villages, Fla. She taught art for many years at Medomak Valley High School and was involved with theatre productions there. His sister, Helen died in 2010. He has 10 nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro, with Peta Van Vuuren officiating. Interment will be held at Brookland Cemetery, Waldoboro.
