WATERVILLE, Maine — A Waterville man who had been awaiting trial on theft charges is facing more after stealing a pair of sneakers from a sporting goods store, police said.
Robert Bishop, 32, was arrested Monday after he went into Olympia Sports and took a pair of white Puma sneakers, Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey said.
Store staff had called police after Bishop had taken the sneakers, Rumsey said, and the suspect was easy to locate, as he was walking on Armory Road wearing the sneakers.
Bishop was arrested, booked into the Waterville police station on the theft charge and released on $1,000 bail, Rumsey said.
Bishop had been awaiting trial on charges of trafficking in prison contraband in April and theft on July 26.

Wait….thats not fair Olympia sports has been robbing people for years with the price of their sneakers! If the guy could afford to post $1000 for bail then he should have paid for those $100 sneakers.
Yet another mastermind in training………..Wow..
He should have taken running shoes.
Maybe he couldn’t run because they were walking shoes?
Nah officer….. I’ve had these bright white new looking sneakers for years……
This is clearly someone who does not think beyond his wants of the moment. He will eventually have time to think about his actions behind bars, but it will probably take a few more such incidents. It sounds like he was already out on bail and still seeing what he can get away from. This is nothing new though. Back in my college days, I worked at night at my local Zayres, and we knew all the little tricks people tried, like trying on the new shoes and leaving the old pair behind and then trying to walk, or run, out of the store. They usually didn’t make it all the way out the door, but that did not stop some of them from trying again. Now if only all that persistance was used for prosocial actions instead of antisocial ones.
