MURRIETA – Althea A. (Giggie) Walker, 81, passed away Monday, July 30, 2012, surrounded by her family at home. Althea was born July 22, 1931, in Washburn, the daughter of Elbridge and Hannah (Doody) Giggie.
She graduated from Washburn High School in 1948 and attended Aroostook State Normal School. On May 10, 1952, she married William “Bill” A. Walker in Washburn. Althea and Bill started married life in Ashland, raised their family in Brewer, retired in Naples, Fla., and then spent seven years in California near family. She held many jobs, including substitute teaching, serving as an election clerk and bookkeeping at Walker Associates. She loved entertaining, baking bread and going on road trips, especially to Naples, Fla. Yet, above all, she cherished her family. For the past 25 years Althea has been better known as Mimi to her three grandchildren, Abby, Emily and Tyler. She found great joy in being a part of their lives, sharing all their big and little moments.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, William A. Walker of Murrieta, Calif.; son, Scott Walker of San Diego; son, Kent Walker and his wife, Verda, of Granbury, Texas; daughter, Beth Ann (Walker) Fredrick and her husband, Jim, of Temecula, Calif.; son, A. J. Walker and his wife, Donna, of Portland; and three grandchildren, Abby and Emily Walker of Portland and Tyler Fredrick of Temecula, Calif. She will be missed immensely by all of them and by friends from Maine to California. Many thanks to Hope Hospice, Murrieta, Calif., for their loving care during a difficult time.
A time will be announced later for family and friends to remember Althea in Portland and Temecula, Calif. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hope Hospice, 29826 Haun Road, Suite 108, Sun City, CA 92586 or
