APPLETON, Maine — Two people have been charged with theft after police said they took a box in which donations were being collected for a man who suffered a serious injury two months ago.

Andrew Blauvelt, 22, of Washington and Amanda Rolerson, 29, of Appleton were issued summonses for theft, according to Knox County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Tim Carroll.

The theft occurred at the West Appleton Country Club on July 28 but was not reported to the sheriff’s office until Tuesday, Aug. 7, he said. Carroll said he does not know why it took so long to report the theft.

The theft occurred the evening after a benefit was held for Steve Grierson of Cushing, who broke his back in an accident on June 2, the chief deputy said.

Within 24 hours of the theft being reported, the sheriff’s office had charged Blauvelt and Rolerson, Carroll said.

The money has not been recovered. How much money was stolen has not yet been determined, he said.

The suspects were in attendance at the benefit, the chief deputy said.

  1. Wow, this sets a new low even for thieves. I think they should have to earn the amount that was stolen, and give it to the poor guy that broke his back.

  2. not the first rodeo for blauvelt. he was allegedly ripping off fellow students in his high school days, and I’m quite sure has an adult sheet also .

  3. Definitely not a first for Blauvelt. He has stolen from my father and friends of my family. Jail is a good place for him and I hope he stays there for a very very long time. I’m pretty sure he has been arrested on a different theft charge a few years ago. Hopefully with his prior arrests combined with this one he will be locked up for a while. They are going to want to stay in there with all the people who are out for their blood.
