PORTLAND, Maine — Police and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner have confirmed the identity of the homeless woman whose remains were found last week as Toina Hanson.
The remains of Hanson, 31, were discovered by a man picking blueberries off of Hutchins Drive last week.
Portland police Lt. Scott Pelletier said in a statement Hanson’s identity was confirmed by items found at the scene along with a review of her medical records. Police have yet to determine a cause of death.
Police are looking to speak with anyone who has had contact with Hanson in the last year. Anyone with information is asked to contact Portland police at 874-8533.

Rest in peace, Tonia Hanson. I did not know you but it is sad that you died alone and unknown.
This is very sad….Tonia had no relatives? So very sad…rest in peace.
Rest in peace…Homeless is not needed in the headline.
It actually got more sympathy from me than if it had been someone from a higher caste….
If there is a god up in a heaven, I pray she is finally safe and happy.
