PRESQUE ISLE and BREWER – Albertine M. “Abby” Gardiner, 94, passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 10, 2012. She was born Sept. 24, 1917, in Fort Kent, daughter of Theodule and Ozithe (Berube) Bernier.
Albertine was a graduate of Maine School of Nursing and worked at Gould Memorial Hospital, Presque Isle. She was a charter member of Daughters of Isabella and actively volunteered her time during many years. Abby’s life was rich with experiences that shaped her resilient and courageous spirit. She loved to dance and her sense of humor never failed to bring a smile to those around her in the 94 years that she graced our lives.
She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Linda and Steve Melus of Ocala, Fla., and Debra and Brian DeLowery of Carmel; and two sons, Ronald Gardiner of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Lawrence Gardiner and wife, Leslie, of Mapleton. Abby was also a proud nana of 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Albertine was predeceased by her husband, Alfred J. Gardiner; her son, Daniel J. Gardiner; her daughter, Marilyn A. (Gardiner) Wilkinson; her brother, Victor Bernier; and her sister, Ernestine Boutot.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Presque Isle, with the Rev. Ray Morency, celebrant.
