VAN BUREN – Leona J. Tardif, 92, died Aug. 12, 2012, at a Van Buren health care facility. She was born July 15, 1920, in Van Buren, a daughter of Leon and Angelique (Michaud) Rossignol.
She previously worked several years with Viner Shoe, Potato Service and Aroostook Homemaker Services.
Leona is survived by seven children, Rudolph “Percy” Tardif and his wife, Mary, of Presque Isle, Robert Tardif and his wife, Jackie, of Van Buren, Claudette Standing and her companion, Ben Roy, of St. David, Richard Tardif of Lisbon, James Tardif and his wife, Carol, of Penobscot, Clayton Tardif of Topsham and Russell Tardif and his wife, Darylin, of Van Buren; five brothers, Kenneth, Fernand, Percy, John and Phillip Rossignol; six sisters, Alma Swanson, Lucille Scott, Virginia Lucia, Claire Charette, Bernadette Rossignol and Roselle Ouellette; 23 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Claude Tardif; brothers, Eugene and Rene Rossignol; and sisters, Delina Ouellette and Anita Piscittello.
There will be no visiting hours. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Committal service and interment will be afterward at the parish cemetery. At Leona’s request, and in lieu of flowers, she asks everyone to consider visiting a local nursing home and to bring the residents much needed smiles and company.
