RICHMONDVILLE, N.Y. — Police have identified the truck driver from Maine who died earlier this week when his rig sailed off an interstate overpass in upstate New York and hit a passenger vehicle on the route below, setting both vehicles ablaze.

State police say the crash happened about noon Sunday in the town of Richmondville, 40 miles west of Albany. The truck had been heading west on an I-88 overpass.

The truck driver, 47-year-old Jeffrey Mueller of Caribou, Maine, was found dead in the wreckage. He was identified through dental records.

Two people in the smaller vehicle, 36-year-old Crescent Ives and 15-year-old Kilee Ives, both of Worcester, NY, were taken to Westchester Medical Center with serious burns. They were still being treated Thursday.

The investigation is continuing.

    1. When I read this story it reminded me of all the times my best friend and I went up to the county snowmobiling over the years. We’d often remarked how tough these county men were-hauling potatoes and other freight to and from northern Maine. In a blinding snow storm there are times when you just could not see for what seemed like minutes, but were heart pounding seconds. I did not know your loved one-but I know plenty of good men just like him. May he rest in peace.

  1. We are still in shock. It is hard to accept that you are truly gone. Your sis and I just cannot believe it. RIP.

  2. It is hard to accept that you are truly gone. Your sis and I are still in shock. RIP bro… We will miss you.

  3. Although I live in Central Maine now, I am from Worcester, NY, and know the family involved in this tragic accident.  I did not know Jeff Mueller, but feel such  sadness at his sudden and unexpected passing.  Blessings to all of of his family and friends as they deal with this tragic accident.  I am married to a trucker and I learned to treasure each and every day. May you find comfort with each other and the happy memories you shared.

  4. So sad; I worked with Jeff more than 20 years ago. I didn’t know him well, but as soon as I heard his name, I remembered him. He was a very nice guy. Rest in peace, Jeff. Love and prayers for family and friends.

  5. May God send his peace and comfort to all this poor man’s family and friends, as well as a healing to the accident survivors.
