ORLAND, Maine — After leading a high-speed chase, crashing his motorcycle and hiding in the woods for a few hours, an Orrington man was arrested Monday at an Orland campground.

Hancock County Sheriff Deputy Shane Campbell was called to Balsam Cove Campground around 11 a.m. to respond to a man who had arrived to “torment” the caller’s family. When Campbell arrived, the suspect, Kenneth Ladd, 46, of Orrington, was riding his motorcycle.

Ladd refused to stop for Campbell and bolted away on his bike, speeding away through the campground until he crashed into a few small trees and a sign post, Lt. Tim Cote of the sheriff’s office said Wednesday. Ladd then ran into the woods to evade officers.

Backup from the sheriff’s office and Ellsworth Police Department arrived, but the suspect was nowhere to be found. Officers continued to patrol the area, and a few hours later, around 3 p.m., Ladd emerged from the woods and was arrested.

Ladd had some scrapes and scratches after his crash, Cote said, but was otherwise uninjured. He was charged with driving to endanger and failure to stop for a police officer and brought to Hancock County Jail. He is currently free on $500 unsecured bail.

Both charges are Class E crimes, punishable by up to six months imprisonment and a $1,000 fine.

  1. LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES!

had the motorcyclist been allowed to have loud pipes,
he would hav known his cycle would be loud and not
have take off on the copper

before youse criticize the motorcyclist, remember this
could have been you or your family member or your
neighbor that took off on the cops and had an accident

      1. Me too! I’m sure it’s full of satirical tidbits such as that. Ya know, like the old Nat-Lamp.   :)

    1. I should certainly hope I’m not related to anyone stupid enough to run off on the cops.

I don’t think loud pipes would have many any impact on the motorcyclist’s extreme stupidity.

    2. LOUD LIVES SAVES PIPES

We all need to loudly blast sense into those who refuse to operated lawfully. Experts explain the best way to keep safe and be motivated to obey laws in general is to save the manufacturer’s pipe performance.

  2. Mr. Ladd, a 46 year-old adult, represents the first generation of Mainers who never matured and are of little good to society.   The offspring of his generation are the ones robbing drugstores, collecting foodstamps, and pretty much just being worthless.  Way to go Mr. Ladd – you are quite a man.

    1. While I share your disgust for many of my fellow humans, I would like you to know that there are still those of us in our 20s who work.  I know the percentage is decreasing by the day, and something will have to give, but some of us will be on the good side of the line when that happens.  I was raised to be a hard worker and never got anything I didn’t deserve.  Every one of the lazy “young adults” performing hold ups and break-ins deserve a nice stint in jail, but don’t give up on the whole generation just yet.

You know the system is broken when literally handing people free money doesn’t keep them from stealing from honest people.
