ROCKLAND, Maine — The Rockland Planning Board will consider a proposal at its Tuesday, Sept. 4, meeting for a communications tower on land owned by the Rockland Golf Club.
U.S. Cellular has submitted the application to the Rockland Code Enforcement Officer to erect a 100-foot tower next to a quarry by the s-curve on Old County Road.
In addition to the tower, U.S. Cellular plans to erect a 12-by-20-foot building for equipment associated with the tower to be enclosed by a 35-square-foot fence.
The company is leasing 6,400 square feet of land from the golf club.
The estimated cost of the project is $120,000.
The planning board’s agenda also includes a plan by the Home Kitchen Cafe to expand its building at 650 Main St.
The plan calls for a two-story, 391-foot addition on the south side of the building for a new kitchen and a two-story, 280-square-foot addition on the front for additional seating.
The expansion is estimated to cost $250,000 and would be completed within six months from when approval is granted.
The planning board meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at city hall.

Why does Rockland need a cell tower, esp. a USC tower? I don’t know anyone who doesn’t get good reception in town.
