HERMON and BANGOR – Clarence Briggs passed away peacefully Aug. 16, 2012, surrounded by people who cared for him. He was born Aug. 1, 1947, in Springfield, to Alice Briggs and Floyd Joslyn.
He was raised by a loving foster family who made weekend trips to Pownell to visit him at Pineland, they fondly remember him as “Johnny.” Clarence came to be supported by his OHI family Jan. 21, 1991, with the help of a very special friend, Bonnie Bean. He loved country music, drinking coffee and having a cigarette with his friends. His sense of humor was like no other.
He was predeceased by his foster father, W. Newton Murphy. Clarence is survived by his foster mother, Laura Murphy; foster sister, Kathy Smith and husband, Gary; foster brother, Michael Murphy and wife, Carol; and nephews, Paul and Brian Willis. Clarence will be remembered by his dear friend, Norman; two special housemates, Josh and Bill; girlfriend, Louise; and many, many friends.
A service to celebrate Clarence’s life will be held 4 p.m . Aug. 28 at OHI, 25 Freedom Park, Hermon.
