STRONG, Maine — A Franklin County detective was driving toward Farmington on Route 4 when he noticed a man crossing the street toward an old farmhouse.
Detective David St. Laurent turned his cruiser around and when he arrived back where he had seen the man cross the street, he saw a man going through a window into the farmhouse, Lt. Niles Yeaton said.
St. Laurent called for back up and Detective Tom White and Yeaton responded. They entered the residence with guns drawn and took Chad W. Lockrow, 37, with a last known address of 39 Boylston St. in Boston into custody with no resistance, Yeaton said.
Lockrow was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief and taken to Franklin County jail in Farmington, he said.
His bail was set at $5,000 cash.
Deputies believe that Lockrow may have gone into the house previously because there was a backpack in there that St. Laurent didn’t see him carrying when he crossed the road, Yeaton said.

Wow, 5,000 dollar bail? seems a little steep.
what’s with all the out-of-staters coming up here and causing shenanigans?
Yeah, there are plenty of native Mainers and permanent residents who can take care of that. Seriously, though, it could simply be that predatory types think that rural areas are easy pickings. I saw the same thing when I lived on Cape Cod. There were plenty of people from the cities who would try to rob the locals. Sometimes it was easy for them because some people who live in small towns have a false sense of security and leave their doors and windows to their homes and cars unlocked. I say if someone is going to rob you, they will still do it. But make them work for it. Don’t give them easy access.
