BANGOR AND BREWER – Charles F. Titcomb, 91, husband of the late Annabelle (Smith) Titcomb, died Aug. 23, 2012, at Maine Veterans Home, Bangor. He was born Dec. 25, 1920, in Corinna, the son of Lyndon and Gladys (Buswell) Titcomb.
Charlie graduated from Newport High School and was a member of the National Athletic Honor Society, and attended Maine School of Commerce, now Husson University. He was a teletype operator with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II from 1942 to 1946, and served in the Pentagon and the Pacific Theater of Operations with the Air Transport Command holding the rank of sergeant. He was a former member of Daniel E. Geagon Post No. 95 American Legion, Brewer. Charlie married the former Annabelle Smith of Milo, March 9, 1943, in Washington, D.C. He was a well-known automotive parts and oil salesman for more than 40 years. He was a past president of Fairmount PTA and a past president of the Saturday Nighters. Charlie served as a director of Penobscot Conservation Association and as a director of Sebasticook Lake Association, Newport. He was a member of United Commercial Travelers and a former member of Bangor Junior Chamber of Commerce. After retiring he was a volunteer tour guide at Cole Land Transportation Museum and a member of East Orrington Congregational Church. Charlie was a member of St. Andrews Lodge No. 83 AF & AM, Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Bangor and Maine Consistory, Portland. He was a member of Anah Shriners, where he was a former member of the Arab Patrol, a former member and officer of the Motor Corps, chief aide and directors staff. Charlie was also a member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Bangor Court No. 150 and several Shrine clubs, sold tickets for many years at the Shrine Circus, and served as secretary of the Lobster Bowl football games.
Charlie is survived by two sons, Gordon Titcomb and Gary Titcomb and his wife, Susan, all of Bangor; grandson, William Charles Titcomb and his wife, Margaret, of Bangor; granddaughter, Kristi and her husband, Ralph Sanfasin, of Portland; great-grandson, Thomas Sanfasin; and special friend, Evelyn Barrows of Bangor. In addition to his parents and wife, Charlie was predeceased by his sister, Rowena Cramer.
Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, with Pastor Carl Schreiber, of East Orrington Congregational Church, officiating. Interment will be immediately after the service at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, after the interment.
