PORTLAND – Florence S. Lindsay, 81, of Crestview Drive, passed away Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, with her family by her side, at her home . She was born in Bangor, the daughter of Dr. Burnham and Willa (Stewart) Sewell.
She was raised in Lincoln and graduated from Eastern Maine General School of Nursing in 1952. She married Fletcher W. Lindsay in 1953 and moved to Millinocket. They later moved to Portland in 1973. Florence worked as a registered nurse at Eastern Maine General, Bangor; Workman Hospital, Lincoln; and also as a private duty nurse. She later worked as a manager at Owen Moore Clothing Store, Portland. She served as president of Summit Street Community Club. Florence enjoyed summering at Cold Stream Pond in Enfield, collecting dolls and beanie babies, knitting and crocheting. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Carolyn, whom she always called “Sister.” She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Fletcher Lindsay of Portland; two sons, Fletcher II and Brian and his companion, Marilyn, all of Portland; a daughter, Sandra and husband, Mark Weimer, of Windham; and grandchildren, Julia of Newton, Mass., Nicole and Kayla of Portland.
Visiting hours will be 1-3 p.m. Tuesday at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook, where a funeral service will begin 3 p.m. Interment will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at West Broadway Cemetery, Lincoln.
