HOLDEN, Maine — A Clifton man was uninjured but his car wound up upside down in a ditch along Clark Hill Road after he missed a driveway while backing in on Sunday afternoon.
“He was apparently driving down the road, abruptly stopped, and backed up to stop and visit a friend,” said Holden police Sgt. Eugene Fizell. “When he was doing that, he misjudged his direction and backed in along a ditch, got his wheels down into it about 30 feet back, and then hit a culvert.”
The 2002 Saab SUV hybrid wound up flipped upside down in the ditch.
There were no injuries to driver Matthew Coleman, 20, or passenger — and younger brother — Kristofer Coleman, 18, of Clifton.
“Witnesses reported the car on fire, but that was smoke from the air bags, which deployed,” said Fizell. “The vehicle was totaled and there was also minor damage to the culvert.”
No charges were issued to the driver.
A tow truck was needed to pull the vehicle out of the ditch.
“I’m not quite sure how it flipped,” said Fizell of the SUV. “Apparently he caught gravel and hit the ditch between two driveways, then overaccelerated and wound up upside down.”

One Huge Pothole
Another fin genius
I would of loved to be there to see him flip it….How do you even do that….. Maybe he shouldnt have a drivers license….
Wow, I don’t remember ever seeing a rollover accident while backing up! Crazy…..
I would love to meet this guy, maybe I will stop in and visit him on my way to Tinkersville this Friday, if you see the green heavy chevy on RT 9 just move out of the way!!!!LOL
Just don’t run over any Priuses…..
Let’s hope someone had the presence of mind to grease it while it was upside down. No better time.
3.5 – didn’t stick the landing.
Maybe he needs valet service for his driveway. It can only get worse in winter unless he learns better ways to operate his vehicle. I hope his insurance covers this accident.
It’s the new insurance premium that is going to hurt big time.
Pedal to the metal…???
Saw “Clifton” and saw a rolled-over car…assumed it would be on Route 180 haha.
bath salts
Something here just doesnt seem right, how did the car get upside down again?

SAAB didn’t have an SUV in 2002 or a hybrid.
BDN: fail.
Correct your mistakes folks. It’s a 9-5 Wagon. No more, no less.
