PORTLAND, Maine — A Portland man who had to use the bathroom during a field sobriety test Monday is facing charges after using Cumberland Avenue as a toilet, police said.
Remus Opi had struck a fire hydrant on Locust Street, backed up and tried to drive away, but his car broke down on Cumberland Avenue, according to Portland police Lt. Scott Pelletier.
Opi continued to attempt to restart his vehicle even after it broke down, but had no success, Pelletier said. Police already were on their way at this point, as an alert witness had called 911.
When officers arrived, they could smell a strong odor of alcohol on Opi and ordered him to take field sobriety tests. Opi, who spoke broken English, desperately had to relieve himself right on the street while police were explaining the tests to him.
“He just unzipped his pants and started peeing right there on the street,” Pelletier said.
Police arrested Opi and charged him with operating under the influence and indecent conduct and booked him into the Cumberland County Jail.

When ya gota go, I guess, ya got to go! LOL
Well, when ya gotta go you gotta go… At least he didn’t do it in his britches…….or the Police cruiser.
is he “undocumented” by any chance ?
If you are going to be arrested, you might as well —go out in style!
Portland certainly has a variety of criminals!!!
Bad day.
A story for the grand kids. Heart warming.
All I can say is EWWW!!
Who cares, we live in eastern Maine.
ctually they will have a tough time making the indecent conduct charge stick. It is perfectly legal to pee in public in Maine.
I doubt that … It’s indecent exposure…
haha! Too funny!
When you have to go you have to go…..
His water pills were kicking in.
When you break the seal you just have to go.
