MAPLETON – Rufus Williams, 77, died Monday morning, Aug. 27, 20121, at Cary Medical Center, Caribou. He was born June 4, 1935, in Appalachia, Va., son of Cecil and Rosa (Johnson) Williams.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force. He loved to hunt and fish, and pick fiddleheads and give them away to neighbors and friends. He was a faithful and devoted husband, and a generous man.
Rufus is survived by his wife, Pearl (Hudson) Williams of Mapleton; daughter, Penny Esposito and husband, Gregg, of Ellenville, N.Y.; grandson, Luke Esposito; stepson, Danny Belyea of Mapleton; stepdaughter, Linda Kurilec and husband, Peter, of Caribou; brother, Robert “Bobby” Williams of Baltimore; special sister-in-law, Della Williams of Baltimore; and a few special fishing buddies. He was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, John and Earl Williams.
Graveside services with military honors will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Southside Cemetery, Mapleton, with Pastor Chris Hearn officiating.
