HERMON, Maine — A 31-year-old Hermon man was arrested at his mother’s home in Bangor Wednesday night less than an hour after he reportedly struck his girlfriend in their Hermon home.

Jason Fecteau was charged with domestic violence assault and taken to Penobscot County Jail, Deputy Jay Hallett of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department said after the arrest.

The incident was reported by the woman’s 11-year-old son, who called 911 after he heard the assault take place while heading to his bedroom to watch WWE wrestling, Hallett said, adding that the boy did not see the assault, which occurred shortly after 7:30 p.m.

“He was good, according to the dispatchers. He stayed calm. He told them that he wants to be a policeman when he grows up,” Hallett said.

Trooper Thomas Fiske of the Maine State Police arrested Fecteau at his mother’s mobile home on Union Street in Bangor shortly after the assault, Hallett said.

Reports that there was a firearm inside the residence brought nearly half a dozen county sheriff’s deputies and state police troopers to the area, Hallett said. Though there was a gun in the home, it was not used in the assault, he said.

The woman’s injuries were not life-threatening, Hallett said. She was struck over the right eye and was bruised on the chest, where Fecteau allegedly shoved her, he said.

  1. Omg a gun in a home in Maine! Are u kidding me! don’t dare tell Obama! …but good job to this boy!

    1. Did you even read the article?  The guy was the boyfriend of the mother not the father of the boy.

  2. Assault is grossly under-prosecuted in Maine.  The second infraction should warrant mandatory jail time, perhaps 2 years or more.  The third assault should be a mandatory 5 years, enough time to think over ones behavior problems.  Anything less not going to motivate these people to stop.

  3. What great role models for this child.  The Dad is obviously a loser, but the Mom also has a responsibility to this boy.  I pity her, but she needs to find a safer environment for her and her son.  Living in a shelter would be better than living in a home dominated by an abusive husband.

  4. this boy should be proud of himself for standing up and protecting his mother. and mom needs to be more choosey with who she dates and brings into the home. hopefully she will choose her children and not let this loser back into her home
