SOUTH THOMASTON, Maine — Property owners will pay nearly the same amount this fall for taxes.

Selectmen set the tax rate last month at $12.06 per $1,000 of assessed property. This is up from last year’s rate of $12.03.

Taxes are due Oct. 1. A person owning a home assessed by the town at $200,000 will pay $2,412, up $6.

The town sent out bills totaling nearly $3.2 million. Seventy-seven percent of those taxes go to Regional School Unit 13. Another $558,000 goes for municipal operations such as snow plowing and road maintenance. The town will be paying Knox County $241,000 for the services it provides such as sheriff patrol.

The town will charge 7 percent interest on taxes paid after Oct. 1.
