BANGOR, Maine — Two undocumented men from Colombia charged with illegally crossing the border from Canada into Maine made their first appearances Friday in U.S. District Court.
Guillermo Girald-Alverez, 51, of Bogota and Hector Hugo Pulgarin-Munoz, 51, of Medellin were charged with entry without inspection. The men were arrested Thursday after being observed by a U.S. Border Patrol agent driving around a barricade near Union Corners, New Brunswick, the previous day, according to court documents.
Union Corners is less than five miles south of the Houlton border crossing.
The Colombians told agents that they were coming to the U.S. to work and live. Neither man had the proper documents to enter or remain legally in the U.S., according to court documents.
Pulgarin-Munoz pleaded guilty Friday to the charge and was sentenced to four days in jail.
Giraldo-Alvarez pleaded not guilty. His jury-waived trial is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 7.
If convicted, he faces up to six months in prison and a $5,000 fine. Pulgarin-Munoz faced the same penalties.
Both men most likely will be deported after their federal cases are closed.

Never mind the 6 months, deport them now.
Undocumented=Illegal
Get em outta here. The US can no longer afford to support illegals coming to our country and using up resources as well as taking up precious jobs that the LEGAL US citizens need.
I bet they manage to stay in the country long enough to vote in November.
Quick, where is Holder and the Department of Injustice to save the day, gotta have that Larino vote you know!
He’s at a gun show.
How meanspirited to not let them in.
Racist America.
Good. Give them a fine, make them work for a week of hard labor, then drop them off at home.
pure ignorance.
Undocumented? They are documented – documented citizens of Columbia – not Americans. Which is fine so long as you print the truth in the BDN and not spin it. Illegal aliens come here illegally – they intentionally avoid America’s rule of law and immigration statutes often committing dangerous criminal acts or bringing drugs with them.
This nation was built by hard working documented immigrants. Stop rewarding those who break the law, cheat, or steal to get ahead.
Look up the difference in American money compared to Colombia, that tells me all I want to know, that’s one reason these people come over. Pretty simply answers to this problem, If you are not registered to be in this country like our ancestors did yrs. ago and you get arrested, you get deported. The companies that hire them with no papers should be fined high enough that they wouldn’t dare hire them for that reason.
they might know something about the triple homicide
Judging by the height chart they are standing up against they could be put to work impersonating oompah loomphas…on a more serious note I wonder since they will “most likely” be deported why waste the taxpayers dollars by locking them up for a jail term…just deport their butts now!
All of you are a bunch of ignorant US Americans that cant seem to understand the people that try coming to this country for a better living. That is my father in one of those pictures, and believe me when i tell you you have no idea what this man has gone through to keep himself and his family safe. The MANY years (about 25) living in the US my father worked very hard and always paid his taxes meaning he paid all the laborers that get paid by “the government”. and NO he didn’t take any “precious” job from anyone. Believe me when i tell you that a US citizen can get a job way faster and way better than any illegal immigrant in the United States. Its not our fault that they don’t try and we are always there ready for the work given to us. its not like we have a nice job in a office doing paper work! most of the jobs are hard labor out in the sun for more then 10 hours! so shut your face about “precious jobs” ! You don’t understand the pain that a family member goes through seeing mugshots of someone that has done nothing to hurt anyone else. My father has never committed a REAL crime and has never hurt anyone. He was always very open minded about everything and is very friendly guy. He does not deserve this and NO ONE should be happy about this. I LOVE YOU DADDY AND IM BEHIND YOU 100% !! NO MATTER WHAT!!!
Rather than illegally come to the USA “for a better living”, tell them to try and make their own third world hell holes into better countries, for “better living”. Maybe then people would be flocking THERE instead of here, where all of the freebies are. Try sneaking in Mexico. It’s BAD for you – jail, jail, and more jail. Long time. Bad.
I work two jobs to support my family, I am sorry, I can’t carry those two on my back as well. They are adults, tell them to go home and get jobs and apply inline like my grand parents did, from Italy, nice and legal like.
Have you ever had to go look for a better life because you are being pursued to get killed for no reason in your country? Would you stay and try to make a whole country better? or would you try to move out and find a better life somewhere else? It’s not any of our faults where we are born or the poverty we have to live through, all we do in life is try to better ourselves and give our families a good life. Don’t ever speak about a subject that you haven’t lived or experienced because you have NO clue. Your a third generation Guido that was born in the U.S. and has heard stories that’s it, this country isn’t yours, we’re all immigrants in the world so don’t act like you know anything when you’ve never been to jail for just going to work or looking hispanic. Open your mind and stop being mad at us because you have to work two jobs to support your family. you blame us because you know u can and it makes you feel better because you “know” your more important to the government.
