ORONO AND HAMPDEN – Mary Doris (Deveau) Gerrish, 89, passed away peacefully Aug. 30, 2012, at a Connecticut nursing facility. Doris was born March 11, 1923, in Orono, the daughter of George C. and Mary E. (Melanson) Deveau.
Doris was born and brought up in Orono, and was a 1942 graduate of Orono High School. She was a devoted homemaker, keeping a beautiful home and raising her children. In later years Doris moved to Connecticut to be closer to her family, but always called Hampden and Orono home. Doris will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.
Doris is survived by her loving children, Donna M. Krieg and husband, Joseph, of Laurel Fork, Va., Glenn J. Gerrish and wife, Maureen, of North Stonington, Conn., Roger C. Gerrish and wife, Doreen, of Pawcatuck, Conn., and Anne L. Mitchem and husband, Gary, of Sebago; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Lawrence Deveau of San Antonio, Gerald Deveau of Hampden and Roger Deveau of Australia; and a sister, Thelma Panetta of Acton, Mass. Doris was predeceased by her husband, Stanley J. Gerrish; a brother, Donald Deveau; and two sisters, Marjorie Pedley and Margaret Ringer.
A funeral service celebrating Doris’ life will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. Family and friends are invited to visit 1 p.m. until the time of service 2 p.m. Interment will be immediately after the funeral beside her husband at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden.
