BRIGHTON, N.Y. – Alice Lorraine Cinq-Mars Brzustowicz died Aug. 30, 2012. She was born Oct. 27, 1922, in Lowell, Mass., to Robert Cinq-Mars and Cecile Derosier Cinq-Mars.
A registered nurse Alice served in World War II as first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in England. While serving at the 184th General Hospital she met and married Capt. Richard J. Brzustowicz, also of the U.S. Army Medical Corps. They were wed at St. Philip Neri Roman Catholic Church, Mansfield, England, and were married for 57 years. A devoted wife and parent, Alice was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, a volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital Seton Shop and later at Strong Memorial Hospital’s Friends of Strong Shop. Among her many charitable acts, she aided Polish refugees in this country, and for many years she collected items and sent them to Poland. She considered Dexter her hometown and loved Maine deeply. Alice wanted to be remembered as the nicest mom eight children could ever ask for.
Alice was predeceased by her parents; brother, Robert Jay Cinq-Mars; sister, Agnes Cinq-Mars; and husband, Richard John Brzustowicz, M.D. She is survived by twin sister, Adelaide Peters of Gardiner; her children, Richard J. Jr. and Chi-Hui of Seattle, Thaddeus and Tama of Leavenworth, Kan., Victoria and Jim Ransom of Penfield, N.Y., Barbara Lucieer and Scott of Sodus Point, N.Y., John and Diane of Washington, Pa., Teresa and David Bolduc of Dexter, Krystyna Growney and John of Penfield, N.Y., and Mary and Eloy Meira of Brighton, N.Y.; and dearly loved and cherished grandchildren, Jim Frankel and Sara Finney, Melissa, Joshua and Matthew Wilson, Richard Reed, Megan and Emily Brzustowicz, Evan and Christopher Bridges, Krystyna and Hannah Farrar, Claire and Anne Growney, and Xoan and Anna Meira; and great-grandson, Miles Frankel. She had fond memories of years at the family summer home in Brooksville and the friends that she made there. The family thanks the warm and caring staff at Woodside Nursing Home, Brighton, N.Y., and most especially Marilyn Cimino, Alice’s aide and friend the last years of her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to Dexter Historical Society, P.O. Box 481, Dexter, ME 04930 or Our Lady of Lourdes Church. To share a memory or photo of Alice visit www.anthonychapels.com.
