BATH, Maine — A garage and the boat it contained have been destroyed after a fire in this midcoast community.
Bath Fire Department went to the large garage fire just after 2 p.m. Friday at 17 Dummer Street Court, according to Fire Chief Stephen Hinds.
The fire was caused by the homeowner’s boat winterization efforts, which included draining the vessel’s fluids and gasoline, the chief said. The gasoline apparently was ignited by a spark, the origin of which was unclear Friday.
The 20- to 22-foot boat was considered a total loss, as was the garage, an attached shed and a garden tractor the chief described as in good condition. Hinds would not speculate on a total amount of damage until he was able to see an insurance statement.
Bath Fire Department reportedly was quick to respond to the fire — crews were conducting routine fire-detector tests on nearby Somerset Place when they saw smoke in the sky.

Not to sound cruel but that is a good picture.
And the photographer put that baby out with Bath water.
The photo credit says “Bath Fire Department.” So where are the firemen? Did the photographer not want them in the picture?
My friend did the same thing when recharging his boat battery in his garage… Total loss… The charger was improperly connected or battery was not chargeable… Be careful with fuel and batteries… It is better to do these tasks out of the garage, and with batteries out of the boat, and boat out of the garage…
Draining gasoline with a source of spark or flame nearby?
Heeere’s your sign. Oh, the street you live on is perfect for you.
